Not for making candles. I bought this to make candles in my Presto pot. The wand is fairly short and cannot be attached to anything, so you have to manually hold it in the wax until you get the temperature you want. The wand is also too short so you have to keep it in a cauldron to melt the wax which puts your hands too close to the hot/heating wax. It takes about 15-20 seconds to read the actual current temperature, so holding your hand over the floating wax while waiting for it to reach casting wax temperature is not ideal. The screen faces the inside of the pot. There are SMALL buttons on the back that require good eyesight to tell which is which. You have to use these keys for power on/off and C/F. Maybe you could mark them clearly with colored dots or something? My fault is that I didn't use common sense and didn't use a longer deep pot rod (9 inches tall) and a screen that's easily read overhead.
