I just received this and haven't used it yet. but I'm already angry. I almost 100% bought this thermometer because the label says it uses a AAA battery; this was very important to me as I didn't want to deal with button batteries. As soon as we opened the package, we noticed on the label that it was a button cell battery. This product is misadvertised. Others might not care what battery is used, but I didn't care.

Second use melted it. Not impressed. Of course, I used it to measure hot water and bring it to 200 degrees Celsius in a kettle. There was some steam, but it shouldn't melt the thermostat. I've been doing this for 20 years and have never had a melted thermometer before. So when it comes to temperature reading everything seems accurate - and I can still use it - don't expect the highest quality and don't use it for vapor or liquids close to boiling point.

I've used this thermometer to check meat and even make candy. Even when the meat I was cooking was on the grill or stovetop, plugging this thermometer in while warm didn't affect the reading. Readings were accurate and clear. I love that it's digital and I don't have to wait for the sensor to get stuck or bend. The results are almost instantaneous. Not for making candles. I bought this to make candles in my Presto pot. The wand is fairly short and cannot be attached to anything, so you have to manually hold it in the wax until you get the temperature you want. The wand is also too short so you have to keep it in a cauldron to melt the wax which puts your hands too close to the hot/heating wax. This isn't the fanciest of food thermometers (the build quality and design seem rudimentary), but it might be one of the best because the numbers are big and simple to choose. Read without reading glasses. This is a huge benefit when you're juggling food - getting glasses to see the thermometer is a big problem.
