Review on Garmin Forerunner 310XT Waterproof Running by Javarie Malick

Revainrating 5 out of 5

More than twice the price of the 305; not worth the extra cost.

This watch has many really great features, but some of them have serious flaws. cradle. At my last race, when I tried to charge my 305 on the go, I kept having to check to see if it had come loose from the charging station. I don't expect these issues to occur with the 310XT as the clip seems to hold the watch fairly securely. The battery life is excellent. I've used the watch for 6 miles, 31 miles, 23 miles and 4 miles. Only after all four runs did I have to charge the watch. The display has many different fields that you can select. There are also a number of different "profiles" you can set up, allowing you to select preset fields before starting your run. The watch itself feels slightly better on the wrist than the 205/305. They have an extra piece of plastic that is part of the watch itself that falls on the inside of the wrist. The 310XT looks exactly like the picture. That means the watch itself just sits at the top of the wrist. In my opinion it brought a little more comfort. Cons: The first 310XT I got didn't "start/stop" my run after I took it out and used it twice. Garmin's response was a short email explaining how to perform a hard reset. Of course I sent the defective watch back for exchange. The ant stick, as other reviewers have noted, is almost useless. I'm not sure if the watch tries to locate the satellites while at the same time transferring data to the antstick, but most of the time the transfer fails. If your computer isn't outside, I suspect this will be a problem for others as well. Even after receiving a replacement, both Garmin Connect and the Garmin Learning Center continued trying to locate the previously defective watch. Although these hours have now been removed from both profiles, data transfer is still not improved. Summary: I'd recommend sticking with the 205/305 unless you need really long battery life. If you're into ultramarathons or other endurance activities and don't want to charge your watch as often while running, this is probably the only viable option right now and the only reason I didn't return it in full.

Pros
  • A sea of positive emotions
Cons
  • Almost everything is ok
