Was looking for a print server for our Brother DCP 7020 MFP Our printer used to be connected to an old desktop on the network that was no longer used and we wanted to reduce power consumption. This device is great for that. According to my Kill-A-Watt meter, it only draws 1 watt, while the desktop only draws 50 watts in standby mode. Installation was easy. Insert the CD and follow the steps, then insert the printer driver CD and it works like clockwork. Didn't work on one machine, we have Windows 7 64bit. Not a complete surprise as this is not the operating system listed as compatible. I have not yet tested the multifunction support of this device, but printing works fine. Unlike the user guide, you don't have to limit usage to one user at a time. After connecting via software and then disconnecting, printing is still fully functional and no computer is communicating with the print server. The manual states that you must be connected to the print server to print and that only one user can be connected at a time. As for the Windows 7 computer, I can still print, but only if I share the printer through another computer. . While this is the same as our old setup, we can still remove an idle computer from our network. For the money, this was our top pick given the setup limitations. Would buy again. As soon as the scanning function is tested, I will let you know. Update: The scan worked fine with the print server.
