Good scanner with some flaws

Overall this is a great scanner. I work in an office where we have 6 Epson document scanners. The first version of the scanner I bought was the DS-560. They are AMAZING little scanners, easy to use and the software is packed with features. This DS-575 strikes me as a bit more disappointing than the 560. The moving parts of the scanner don't move smoothly. They get stuck and are very difficult to open, close and adjust; You have to somehow move the pieces around. I thought it might be an issue with the specific scanner I'm using, but I've tested it with another scanner that's also in the office and has the same issue. It would be nice if the parts moved smoothly and easily, but they don't and I have a feeling this will end up breaking the scanner faster than it should. The software has fewer features and appears to be of lower quality than the original Epson DS-560 software. Black and white scans are very low quality even at higher quality. Therefore, when I need to produce high-quality black and white scans, I use a different scanner because this scanner cannot produce high-quality black and white scans. The software also seems to lack features such as B. the ability to scan many pages at once into separate files. This was a feature I LOVED in the old software. Now you either have to scan them page by page, or you have to scan a series of pages and then manually export them to separate files (which may not be possible if you don't have PDF editing software). The skip blank pages feature doesn't work exactly, if the scanner detects that there is something on the back of the page, then you end up having to edit the PDF to remove the blank pages (also an issue if you're looking at unfamiliar with it). PDF editing files). software), the auto-rotate setting is also inaccurate and you have to check each file to make sure the pages are scanned in the right direction. I love Epson scanners, but it seems to me that this particular scanner was lower than the DS-560 despite the much higher price. I feel like Epson needs to go back and update the software to improve its functionality and redesign the moving parts of the scanner to move smoothly without being forced. On the other hand, the scanner is durable, scans documents quickly and rarely jams. I scan documents of any size and quality. I work for a construction company, so a lot of the documents I scan are dirty and wrinkled, and this thing scans them all and almost never jams (even on those tiny, fragile credit card slips). I like that it is easy to use and compact. It can be folded to take up little space on your desk so it doesn't get in the way until you need it.
