good idea only half done. Holds the part but has trouble turning it on and off

Laying the part horizontally on a square tube the same width as the inside of the "U" makes assembly/disassembly fairly easy. Otherwise, the vertical spare and smaller frame becomes juggling. DISADVANTAGES: * For reasons of strength, the thread must have at least the diameter of the screw. that's about 1/4 the normal depth. Instead of the threads (just over 2 threads) of the stop piece, a nut should have been welded to the stop piece. * Easy to cross thread. If you do this, just drill and add your own nut. *If the frame is smaller than the "U" then only a tight fit of the tire to the frame will hold the replacement part in place. * When loosening or tightening the locks, you need to hold "U", spare and turn the locks. Two extra nuts, a drilled flat shank, and a U-thread about 1.5 feet inside to attach the U-shape to the frame without replacement makes it 100% easier to engage and disengage. It ends up in the trash in the rain and I ended up buying this really solid Harbor Frieght spare tire rack for just a few bucks more than I paid for it. Too bad I didn't see this HF carrier before using this "thing".
