It has been more than a year since I bought this shelf. It still works great, love it. and i use it quite often. It's definitely started to show a spot or two of rust right where the metal-to-metal contacts that hold the levers in place when flipped open are. But this is cosmetic and really imperceptible. I skipped checking to see if it got worse. Some light signs of rust and wear. but actually I am amazed at how well this attitude has held up. I park it outside and open it in the back seat of my 1998 Jeep Wrangler all day every day. The rubber bands showed NO signs of age or wear. and i use it often. ***EDIT AFTER 5 YEARS OF USE: Still going strong as of December 2018. It definitely shows rust and age as well as peeling paint on the rods/joints. but he drove a jeep in all weathers and didn't see a workshop for five years. Overall I'm still happy with it and it can still carry bikes. Rubber bands are not torn or torn. Good product.
