Budget Hole Punch

If you want to punch holes in soft copper, brass, aluminum or any other sheet metal with a fairly thin cross-section, then this thing is for you. It punches nice, clean holes of various sizes in metals of reasonable thickness that are not hardened. Do not attempt to smash through hard steel or anything similar. This is a tool that should last a lifetime unless you are going to use it commercially in which case the dies may wear out after years of use.

Pros
  • Best in its niche
Cons
  • Tape

Wrong punches/dies included, poor instructions.

Order came with only 3 matching punches/dies (4.5mm, 6mm and 7mm). The other 4 dies were clearly much larger than the punch (in fact they are all the same diameter, too big). The simple instructions are a joke as they don't explain the other included tool pictured left in the case (distance adjustment maybe?). This tool is not mentioned in the kit, only a large business card is included. I think a $4 Chinese thing that costs $32 isn't enough to contain the right components and instructions. If…

Mandatory hole punch.

(1) Good tool. (2) The tool is a bit tricky or clumsy until you make some holes. (3) Once you feel that this tool is very good and highly recommended. (4) The tool comes with a wide range of hole punches. (5) I just tried to punch a hole in a copper coin (about 14ha, 0.078 inch thick) and it was a real struggle. (6) Some have asked about .0625 inch stainless steel military dog tags, of which I would look for a steel or stainless steel stamp ranging from 14 ga (0.078 inch) to 16 ga (0.0625 inch)

Pros
  • Test for one year
Cons
  • I have nothing wrong with it, everything is fine

It would be nice to have. But. good for hand tools

Two major issues (annoying, not critical). 1) Installation / resizing requires "flattening" with a file. The connecting parts are hooked together, making the task problematic. However, this can be improved with a. Not too difficult. 2) Dimensions are in SAE and metric. But the standard naming convention is not used. Although you can convert one unit into another, only one unit can be used in production. When this was done in SAE units, the metric units were rounded. When this was done in metric

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Obsolete model

Missing parts - Mismatched threads - Broken box

Broken box with the ends already open wasn't a good start but I ducked hopefully. The chips in the plastic storage box were also discouraging but I'm not picky about aesthetics so still ok. Maybe 4 stars at the moment. Open the box to find half of the parts along with a piece of plastic from the hinge. Okay, just cosmetics. We continue. Tried to figure out how it works. It's just a hit. How difficult can it be? Half hits don't cut so are useless but I'm too lazy about returns so haven't broken…

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Vulgarity

The tool is cheap but the punches/dies fit my original Whitney

If you are buying this to use be prepared to test and return. If you are buying this to replace punches/dies with your occasional Whitney this might be a good idea. Missing some of the punches in my original Whitney (didn't use it for a few rounds). Replacing individual stamps was more expensive than buying this stamp and I don't use it that often. Less than half the price of a real Whitney, so what the heck. The tool is poorly made - the punches slide all the way into the groove when loosened…

Does the job

Benefits* Decent hole size range; Note that they are actually metric and not imperial* Easily change punches and dies; I replaced them by hand, no additional tools are required. * Easily adjust the die height for easy cleaning of stamped metal after each operation. ie you might have to put in a little effort, but you can get it back in 15 seconds or less* Can actually penetrate at least up to 16 gauge; I punched through 304 stainless steel sheet metal, which required quite a bit of tools, but I

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

There are no size indications on the bits! Very bad, but also good.

I bought this because my US made Toper Whitney block (original copied from the Chinese) broke from not making sure both tools in the punch were the same size. What's really confusing is that the size is written in bold on the punch and die. Cannot find spare bits. I buy this set (another bit too). BUT NO DIMENSIONS ARE SHOWN ON THE PAPER. There is only one way to find out what size the bits are and that is to use vernier calipers on each of them and sort them each time you need to make a hole…
