Sent to collections? Tell me the definition of no contract.

Bought Inreach back in December. I paid all the fees and stopped using it in March. I received an email from a collection agency on May 26th saying I owe them $39.20 for the InReach billing. I can't log into the site to update something. I suspect Garmin changed terms when Garmin bought the DeLorme. Buyer Warning.

Worth the investment!

I used this in High Uintas it worked great! Garmin's plan was economical, and knowing that help was needed made the investment worth it. The best part is that we used it to navigate the trail, we were always on the right track and could easily see our elevation, heading, waypoints etc. We used it to communicate with family who wanted to come during the camping time we changed our camp but easily updated the group we were staying in and the GPS map on their phones took them straight to our…

Pros
  • GOLS certificate
Cons
  • The packaging is ugly

I bought these in June 2015 and have been using them on the Freedom Plan for a few years with no problems. I've used it to send/receive text and email in remote areas of Alaska. Now that Garmin has bought the company, it's very unreliable. Does not update firmware, does not allow you to update your account or password. A few weeks ago it stopped working completely in the Alaskan outback after working normally in the same area. Unreliable. Customer service doesn't respond - doesn't respond to…

The unit itself works well but the coating is spotty

I don't know how to write a review. Bought this for my daughter who goes camping/hiking with her mom. The device itself works well but the coverage is uneven, some days it finds perfect for 20 minutes, other days it can take 2 days to update the location, sent and received messages are the same. Battery life. this is of course a problem, it lasts 36 hours at best, seriously, if you go camping for a week without electricity, what good is that? Or if you get stuck somewhere and don't update for…

Best for safety and reliability

I am very pleased with my purchase of the DeLorme InReach Explorer. Thanks to solo hiking and camping, my family doesn't have to worry about where I am and can call search and rescue services if needed. Pretty easy to set up for the first time, just follow the instructions on YouTube. Note, however, that this will take some time as the phone must first "connect" to the satellite. I've opted for a plan where you have the freedom to activate your phone when you need it. There is a limited amount…

Exactly what I've been waiting for!

This product is amazing! I bought it because I was preparing for a business trip to a very remote Aleutian (Alaska) island. There is absolutely no cell phone reception and the only reliable means of communication is the satellite phone. One of the most impressive features of this product was the battery life. I set it to track my position every 10 minutes while I was on the boat. It requires a full view of the sky, but I put it in a clear Pelican case and left it on deck and had no problems…

Nice unit but lengthy activation/suspension process

I bought this unit because I regularly go camping and fishing in an area without cell service. The idea was to use the device for two-way emergency communications and status updates with my family and work. The device is quite bulky to take with you on a fishing trip or on a bike, but is portable. I found the UI on the device difficult to use, aside from reading received messages. The interface with the iPhone app is much better and sending and receiving messages is much easier. It works pretty

Good communicator, price premium not justified for non-nav model

EDIT January 2016: I've used two InReach intermittently over the past few months. Works well and I'm satisfied. I will change the rating to 5 stars, even if there are mistakes, because unfortunately the competition is pretty far in this price range. When used with an iPhone, the iPhone app has an option to manually launch Check for Message. It is very beautiful and it is what I was looking for. A new bug that bothers me is that when you reply to someone's InReach message, the reply number…

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options

What can I say - my explorer saved my life. I was paragliding in one of Idaho's most remote areas, the Lost River Range (home to Idaho's highest mountain, Mount Bora), when I ascended to 11,000 feet in winds exceeding 35 mph and despite all my efforts, including the max speedbar , I was blown over the top of Koenigsberg - my worst paragliding fear has now come true. Once downwind I experienced several (full) rotor induced wing collapses but somehow recovered from each and ended up landing far…
