Protection! - Accessories and Supplies

I'm replacing a 12 year old APC SurgeArrest Professional. Green light said I'm still protected; However, a cousin lost his home to an obsolete surge protector, the brand of which is unknown. I'm sure what I've been using for 12 years is good and trendy, but I was intimidated and wanted to make sure my computer and its accessories were protected in the best possible way. Despite the green light, I don't know what to do with my 12-year-old surge protector. The new device was recommended by…

Not to be confused with UPS

It's basically a power strip with built in surge protection, that's all! Unlike many others, I read the leaflet that came with it and they advertise $300,000 surge protection insurance, but wait, register them within 10 days, report connected devices and wait, there's more to come. The estimated cost of the equipment will be covered and determined by you. Be prepared to send them all your gear for inspection at your own expense. Not impressed. Will send back. Basically, you need to let them…

Surge Protection: Not bad for the money. 4320J 400/500/500 Clamping voltage

As a lifelong electronics engineer and electronics trainer (technical college entrance qualification) There are two parameters that determine the quality of a surge protective device: 1. Clamping voltage: the lower, all the better. 330 = Good 400 = Fair 500 = Poor (This unit is rated for 400V hot to neutral and 500V to ground for the other two legs. Good. 2nd Joule rating: higher is better. I recommend at least 3000 joules since this also protects the device itself this is the amount of excess…

Fantastic surge protector, will buy more

First all the basics: I like the wide spacing between the sockets. I can easily install any plug without covering other outlets. Having a reset switch on the side under the bar is a godsend - with previous surge protectors my cat would always step over the switch and turn everything off. This solves this problem. The swiveling power cord is great too, so you don't have to worry about twisting it into an awkward position. You can tell APC put a lot of effort into developing this thing. But…

Good surge protector but the light is obtrusively bright

As a surge protector/surge protector this thing is reliable and I like it. There's enough space between the outlets to plug things in, which is nice and I haven't had any issues with that. It's not too heavy either, which is good since it attaches to the underside of my desk. I have two complaints about the surge protector that are annoying enough to mention. First, the power button is on the side, not the top, which resulted in me accidentally pressing the button when grabbing the surge…

Pros
  • Surge protector and filter
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

Took it right out of the box and started working on my ivy of cords hanging from the TV and other sources. There was an 8 socket power strip which was old and probably had little to no surge protection. It took 30 minutes to untangle all the power cords, but this sturdy box looked good compared to what I was using. I plugged everything in, the green light came on, which I understand also serves as a warning of unsafe wiring in the house. Our house is from 1953, so it's good to know that…
