I bought it to watch DVDs on my Mac. The price was reasonable, the product has an aesthetic appeal and works consistently well. 4 stars instead of 5 for the following: the DVD tray mount feels a bit fragile, the DVD needs to be ejected from the computer and not straight out of the drive, the product sometimes vibrates heavily during loading or randomly mid-play. I don't know if these issues are unique to this product or if they apply to all external drives. At the moment I have no real problems

Does what it's supposed to. The price dropped the day I bought it. Writes CDR at 12x so not the fastest but works fine. I haven't tried burning DVDs yet. I'm a teacher and we recently got new laptops (MacBook Air) with no hard drives. I needed my own DVD/CD drive and it worked straight away with my movie. I don't use it to rip CDs or DVDs, so I can't comment on how it does that. It plays my DVDs with ease and costs a lot less than other similar devices. I am very satisfied with this product.

Bought this for my MacBook Pro as it doesn't have a built in disc drive. I was worried it wasn't compatible as Macs seem to be picky. So far no problems. Nice slim design, works with PC out of the box. For Mac, my daughter has to reset some settings on her Mac Air and restart it every time for it to work. Small hassle, I don't know if this is a common problem with external drives with Apple products.
