Great price, works well, terrible security

Works great. Provides reliable fixation of equipment even on long journeys. Very similar to models of other well-known brands on the market. The only major downside is that you can easily remove the device when everything is locked. Has a manual nut and quick release but is attached to the roof rack. You could remove it and all the hardware that it contains in minutes if you really wanted to. 5 stars for value 1 star for safety 3 stars overall

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons

Decent ski racks, very similar to my old Thule racks

They're not as thick of metal as my Thule, but for the price they're good. The buttons work, the rubber is supple, it stays in the skis. Not sure how long they will last but out of the box and on the car it was pretty quick and they seem sturdy. Driven 60 km, no problems. Let's see how they behave over time. My Thule was in my other car and has been working since 2008. Let's see how they do, they should last me a year or two.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel

Went like clockwork!

The first and so far only attempt to transport skis with this carrier. Bolted to the 2005 Subaru Outback cross members. Relatively easy assembly and secure attachment of 4 pairs of cross-country skis. No problem driving 200+ miles on the freeway at 80+ mph. Have a lot of experience with roof top bike racks such as Thule, Rocky mounts etc and it's not that high quality but for occasional use and when it will be removed and not exposed to the elements this rack is a good piece of equipment at a…

Poor security, best in car racks and mounts

Easy to install but not used yet. But for now, this is a product that shouldn't be left in the car while skiing. You need to remove it after removing the gears because the braces don't offer enough protection. Just tap on screws where someone can just unscrew anything and get away with it. I think that's why it's so cheap. Update: I used it on my trip today and it works great. I drove at 80mph in strong winds and it didn't open at all which I was worried about at first but it worked. The only…

Lockable ski holders + quick release bindings.? 🤔

Haven't used it yet, but I find it a bit strange that the ski holders themselves are lockable, but the crossbar holders are quick-release (no locking option). So if someone really wanted to, they could run away with the whole package and disassemble it later. But with infrequent use, the risk can be acceptable for the price. Other first impressions: even in freezing temperatures, the locks seem a bit difficult to open and close (maybe I just don't use them, but they don't offer much security)…

Pros
  • Stable test results
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

Hardware upgrade

As mentioned the uprights attach to the crossbars with quick release rods and knurled nuts. This is definitely a security hazard and although the racks themselves have decent keyed locks, it would be a minor hassle for a thief to simply undo the clamps and escape with your gear AND your racks. A few bucks at the hardware store. and you can replace the knurled screws with lock nuts (6mm, thread pitch 1.0) and replace the quick release completely. For this I used 2" 10-24 hex head bolts with…

Pros
