Ordered this product from Revain and when it arrived brand new everything was fine for the first 2 weeks. So $48 for a plastic jug is a bit ridiculous but the quality of the product is good. Based on other reviews, I'm not sure if the water actually goes through the filter. This jug is pretty simple. It works exactly as advertised. As some other reviewers have pointed out, the inner filter reservoir is taken out for cleaning and should be removed for cleaning before first use. If you do this, you shouldn't have any trouble removing it later. I've had several Britas, from traditional to stream, so I knew what to expect in terms of fill times.
