Get ready to mod

Get ready to mod this device. It's very easy. The joints at the corners are not sealed. The individual lamella panels are very thin and light. They swing open at the slightest whirlwind or rising wind. There is no mesh inside to prevent birds or other objects from flying between the open blinds when the wind blows them through. I glued large washers to the inside of the blinds to weigh them down, added an aluminum window screen on the inside, and sealed them with a Vicor waterproof barrier to…

Aluminum Gable Slats Broan 433

My 8 year old house was built with plastic slats on the ends of the gable. I live in sunny Florida so having thermostatically controlled forced ventilation is very important. The plastic shutters were falling apart and I needed a better replacement. Broan 433 are close to hole size. I received the package today and am very happy with the aluminum blinds. The blades work independently and smoothly. The units appear to be well built. I'll be installing the blinds this weekend and expect them to…

Pros

Cons
  • Expandable

I had previously installed a similar unit with an attic fan but it had worn out over the years as the blades would bang against the locking pins and eventually get stuck in the open position. I sealed the blinds with duct tape but it was starting to look sticky. When I got the new unit I glued a small washer to each slat where it would make contact with the locking pin when opening, hoping to prevent the sticking problem in the future. Also, prior to installation, tape the screen to the back of

Nice roller shutter with minor performance issue

I purchased this roller shutter with a Broan 353 Gable Mount fan for garage installation. The temperature in my garage was over 100 degrees after my wife and I got home that afternoon - two hot engines radiating heat into the garage. And my neighbor has an attic fan in his garage that he highly recommends. So installing the fan and shutters was pretty easy, aside from having to cut through the 1 inch thick plaster. The clasp is very good, except as stated by some other reviews - it doesn't…

Weak and installation instructions questionable

As other reviews have mentioned, this is fairly flimsy aluminum - I welded the corners at an angle which helped maintain structural integrity. Low-temp aluminum soldering rods and a propane torch also work. Like the other reviewer, I glued washers to the inside of the blinds as otherwise they would be too light and end up dangling around. - Again, like the other reviewer, I installed an aluminum screen in the window and secured it with foil tape. I also added more seals. There is already a…

Good but not perfect

I used these blinds in a greenhouse. In my application I had to release about 2500 cfm. To get adequate air intake for this volume, I calculated that I would need two 16 inch louvers. I carefully studied the reviews of this device and it seemed to me that there are some general quality issues that I have to worry about. Both locally and at Revain, however, those big blinds are few and far between. I wasn't interested in paying big bucks for automatic shutters or branded greenhouse shutters…
