Expensive paperweight.

I really wanted this to work. Unfortunately it isn't. It reads discs well, but always throws an error when trying to burn any type of disc. I don't burn CDs very often and when I found out it was past the return period. Luckily the seller was kind enough to refund my money anyway. One would expect the quality control to be better if Asus put their name on it.

Pros
  • Great overall performance

  • Fair

! IMPORTANT ! for optical drives

This drive is amazing but there is a lot to know about it What you can expect is an exceptionally high quality disc burner. It's not a very fast read and I haven't tried burning a Blu-Ray so can't comment on that. This is important though, IT DOESN'T COME WITH BLU-RAY MEDIA FIRMWARE SOFTWARE I didn't realize when I bought it but it can't connect and play Blu-ray movies, you really need to download software to do that in to be able to play movies. It works great with related software (4K, HD…

External Blu-ray Drive

1/28/21 I've had this drive for about 10 days since delivery (including today as I write this) and so far it's working pretty well. I threw in 46 discs. Most of the discs I throw away are movie and TV show DVDs and I use dvdfab to copy them. There is an on/off switch on the back of the unit which I have seen in several reviews where the switch is difficult to use and far from it. One of the 46 discs I put in the drive was a Blu-ray disc, I could see or say no hesitation when switching. The only

50% bounce. Best of optical drives

This is my third one. First I ordered two. One was DOIA on arrival. They exchanged it quickly and without any problems. But now after about 3 months the replacement makes really horrible noises when you open and close the drawer and it takes way too long to identify the discs and start the burning process. I can do a side-by-side comparison with another player using the same software and files. Correct working is initialized and quickly begins to burn. The one with the bad sounds takes a few…

Great backup disk

Reads everything I throw at it. I didn't try to write it down because I don't need it, I just read it. No problem backing up my films. Pretty big, but it says so in the description. Actually, that's not a problem. Note. I use this on my laptop. The specified laptop must be connected to a Type-C power hub (no power cord attached). This drive for some reason requires a lot of power via USB along with the included power cord. When I connect more than one drive to the hub, nothing works. I just…
