Cheaper than hay, suitable for cages and accessories

I like that the box is cheaper than a hay bale. I think they're synthetic so they don't go moldy like hay. They have a waxed paper lining that keeps moisture in. My hens scrape it off in the form of a nest so the eggs stay seated in it when it gets wet. Still better and cheaper than the moldy hay bales I buy at the tractor store. I would prefer it without the wax paper liner to stick it to.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • I won't say anything

Dislikes Cages and accessories

They are so dirty. As soon as you open the packaging, the straw is everywhere. It doesn't stick to the paper bottom at all, so don't even think about shaking them out to clean. I tried and the straw just fell off the substrate. They were very expensive and I'm really disappointed. I'd rather buy cheap sheets and throw them in. I absolutely do not recommend it. Do yourself a favor and look for rubber ones that can be washed and reused, or grass ones that look like artificial turf.

  • Great for a small home

Excellent pads that cost too much

Love love love these! My chickens too. I currently have them in the top four birdhouses and the artificial grass cushions in the bottom ones. I can't say my chickens have preferences. My chickens can form them into a nest shape (bowl) and hold the eggs well. They have a thin paper liner on the bottom that allows me to take them out to dispose of poop if needed. They are not waterproof. You're very important to me, so I'm deducting a star. For that reason, I'll be using them again while I can. I

So far no more broken eggs!

I used to put straw in my birdhouses. The hens immediately throw it away and step on other eggs in the box and I get cracked/crushed/damaged eggs every day. Since I put them in the crates I have NOT seen any broken eggs and they cannot knock anything out of the crate. This money is worth it! I was worried they would eat the nesting material but it didn't seem attractive because nobody was eating. We'll see how they hold up over the summer and when my new girls start laying, but so far I'm very…

Strong, comfortable liners that go well with our nest boxes

We have had issues with liners from several other companies which were too flimsy and brittle for everyday use so I was very pleased to see how the liners performed function. with our hardworking girls. We have seven nests for 10 (soon to be 15) hens ranging in size from Ameraucan to Orpington, all laying at least three eggs a week. MANY nest wars, y'all. When one of the pads in a frequently used box wears out, I compost it and replace it with a pad from a less frequently used box, and then add
