Great for wet painting

These pens are so pigmented. I bought these when I was looking for soft pastel colors but tried something else instead. They are soluble but not like watercolor pencils. It's like painting with wet charcoal. I love it.

Pros
  • Acceptable
Cons
  • Useless features

GIVE PASTELS A CHANCE

I'm new to oil pastels so I'm trying different products. So far I like sticks with tips that don't break easily. I find this product with square tip and low breaking point a bit problematic for me. However, I'm new to the pastel process, so this might work for me. I have ordered other pastel products to see if there is a difference.

Pros
  • cool product
Cons
  • protection

I thought they were supposed to look like Nupastels but they aren't. Colors are not very saturated. White is a dirty light gray. In the whole set only yellow, but an ocher bouquet (cheap). They are made in China, although they carry the French name "Charvin Paris". They are very granular and have no pigment. It's like painting loose plaster with a stick. If you want cheap pastels, buy some really cheap ones and they're probably better than these for less than half the price. I just boughtโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Angry

Not suitable for the work you are trying to sell

I really wanted to like them. They looked very cool when I bought them but they are pretty mediocre. I work in watercolor and sell my paintings and I thought they would be a great addition to my work, apart from painting. I think if you want to experiment with water soluble pigments that's fine, but I don't really like using them because their finish is terrible. It dissolves in water, but when mixed it leaves streaks of the original paint strokes in a way it doesn't. look really good. Likeโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Excellent color and pastel work, all pastel techniques are applicable including shading, gradation, dry fill
Cons
  • Not bad but...

Good offer for hobbyists or craftsmen, bad offline

Firstly I do not recommend if you are interested in their water solubility. You can't flatten areas of color by adding water, mixing with water results in very muddy colors, and pigmentation tends to be poor. If you really want to use them with water, I'd recommend just getting a basic watercolor kit. . Wet blending on paper still leaves a very streaky, grainy look, and using heavy wet materials on pastel paper generally does not bode well. However, they are suitable for hard pastelsโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Set of water-soluble pastel crayons, highly pigmented pastel pencils for drawing and painting
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

I'm just new to pastel.

I'm taking an art class and we need a set of semi-hard pastels. After reading reviews of various pastel brands I decided on this pastel set because people familiar with pastels seemed to think it was ok and it seemed like a reasonable price. I have found that working with dry pastels is messy because they are like chalk. Charvin pastels are "semi-hard" compared to soft pastels, which are even chalkier. (Oil pastels are very different from dry pastels and have a smooth, waxy texture.) Whenโ€ฆ
