Connected and further - but. I have a noise problem.

I was a Cisco/Linksys advocate after D-Link cut too many trades for me in 2005. So having to expand the ports on my WRT-54G to effectively 7 meant buying a small 4 port port from Linksys and buying it through Revain. Well, I hooked the pup up to the same band as my WRT54G and "modem" cable and immediately noticed a faint but annoying hum coming from the power supply. I gave it about a week to make sure the normal household noise drowned out the noise. no fun. When I'm in this room studying, I…

Easy to install switch extends your wired home network

On our home network, the Internet goes from Comcast through a modem and then to a router with four outgoing outlets, one for each of the four computers with CAT-5 cable. Cables wind around the house and give us fast access to the Internet. After a few months, my family's wired home network started to suffer from growth problems - the kids' X-Box needed an extra feed from the internet to play an interactive war game; Sometimes my wife wanted to change the place for the computer. So we physically

Great Device: Computers and Accessories

This Linksys switch is a basic networking device used in home networks and large businesses. It does what it should and does it well. No configuration or setup, just plug and play. I have several of these and have never had to touch them once installed on my network. There is a simple switch; no port filtering, no protocol filtering, no interference filtering. Some high-end switches have these features, but they end up just slowing down the network unless they are more powerful. Those who need…

BEWARE! The power supply stops working long before the switch fails.

The product works perfectly. 5 stars for workgroup switch. BUT the power adapter stopped working in the middle of a meeting today. Zero stars on the power supply! I contacted LinkSys and after 1.5 hours on the phone and 5 DIFFERENT PERSONS later I finally found a CustSvc rep that could really help me. (Your tech support team is absolutely useless! The tech support rep kept asking me what I meant by *AC adapter not working*. I felt like I was in a Monty Python "Dead Parrot" routine .Are you…

This does NOT share the Internet access with the DSL/cable modem!

Just to be clear, this is a switch, not a router! Search the internet for the difference between a switch and a router to learn more. I wanted to share internet access from my cable modem with my computer and my new internet-enabled Blu-ray player. Well I learned the hard way that this switch doesn't help! If you already have a router (wired or wireless) between your cable modem and your computer, you can use such a switch to connect additional computers. It just gives you more ports, but…
