Definitely not easy to clean. It is not a solid material so dirt will either get stuck in the cracks or seep through the mat onto the floor/carpet. The manufacturer's photos show that you can lift the mat to dump the excess dirt back into the box. Absolutely not as the rug is not a solid piece of material, when you lift the rug to empty the extra trash into the box all that dirt will just go through the rug and rain down onto your rug/floor. We love our furry "kids". But one of the things I don't like, and I'm sure you'll agree, is sprawling and chasing outside of the litter box. UPDATE: After a couple of hot and humid days when I picked up the box, the mat was a little stuck to the hardwood floor and the underside of the mat was actually torn/torn in one place (I think where it got stuck). I'll try it now with a thin cotton mat, where the heavy box is actually BELOW the non-slip one, to see if that prevents the sticking problem. I will update the review and return the matte filler if not. REVIEW: I have hardwood floors so the bedding will fit anywhere without this rug.
