Description of 🐊 Gator Hardshell Bicycle: Unmatched Sturdiness and Durability from Continental

PERFECTLY BALANCED- The Gatorskin has set the bar for a perfectly balanced blend of ride quality and long term durability, all without breaking the bank. POLYXBREAKER- The polyester fibers overlap during manufacturing, yielding a very dense fabric and minimal space in-between threads, making the PolyX highly resistant to any foreign body without reducing the rolling resistance. DURASKIN- Sidewall protection coming from the high quality polyamide fabric encasing the core casing of the tire from scuffs and cuts under the worst conditions. HARDSHELL- Hardshell protection is comprised of three main components, a deep casing overlap providing added sidewall protection, and extra wide PolyX breaker protecting the entire tread strip and finally, the casing is sheltered by a bead to bead layer of DuraSkin fabric. HANDMADE IN GERMANY-Continental has been hand making their tires since 1871, maintaining the integrity of tradition, while evolving with the most advanced technology.

Got it; they are good

My tires would blow out a lot until the guy at my local bike shop sold me a Gatorskin. Then my problem with the flats disappeared - at least with this wheel. The next time the other wheel burst again (a week later), I just glued the Gatorskin to that wheel as well. Since then there have been no more apartments. I've tried different tires from different brands (even some Kevlar types) but nothing stood up to the test quite like these Gatorskin hard shells. Now I plan to drive only with these…

Bought folding tires, sent clincher tires.

This seems to be the durable tire I was hoping for. I ordered a 700x25 folding tire but now want to buy a 700x28 because it seems much narrower than the tire it replaced (700x25 folding). Another issue was that the description said they were folding hoops with kevlar beads, but they sent me hoops with wire beads. I fitted them rather than returning them because my old tire had a puncture and I needed a new tire for this weekend ride. Update: I had a flat tire on my third ride with these tires…

Pros
  • Top marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Secret

I chose this one because I've had very good luck with it and especially with the foldable version which is easier to assemble due to the foldable side. However, I had a lot more issues with this last pair than I remember having been riding the folding version for over a year. Very difficult to put on so just be patient I guess and let it stretch under some tension while you use the tire levers to put the last bit on. I was in a hurry and it took a lot of brute force (and a few broken words) to…

Good price <$50

When the Bontrager tires were wearing out on my track, I decided to save a few bucks and bought a cheap set of tires (can't remember the brand). I didn't realize the importance of quality tires until I bought a set of Continental Gator Hardshell Duraskin tires. 700 x 32 was just right for commuting. While I don't track mileage, I do maintain a repair record in a spreadsheet and the front Gator lasted 3 years and 9 months before showing any signs of tire rot. The rear tire lasted about two and a

Exactly what I need on the go

Exactly what I need on the go. I was fed up with the flat tire and someone came to help me change the tube. When I installed these tires at my bike shop, I also put rim tape on the rim and Huffy Tape between the innerliner and the tire. I have arthritis in both hands and am physically unable to change tires on my own. I need all the protection I can get. This is more for personal trust and security. It may be my imagination but it seems like the inner tubes on these tires hold air better than…

Pros
  • Hands-free calling
Cons
  • Usually good, but...

I exercise, drive about 100 miles a week on city streets, past broken glass, metal debris and other tire hazards. I don't like fixing a tire in the field or walking home. It's hard to beat the Continental Gators. I've ridden almost 4,000 miles on this set of hard shells and had a flat, large piece of bottle glass that managed to puncture the rear wheel. I was very happy with the durability of these tires. At 4,000 miles the tire surface is flat, not round, but the chord is not visible. The…

Take What You Know

I tested the Continental Ultra Gatorskin 700x28c in February 2011. I bought these tires for my old bike (Steel Performance - 21 speed). I was very happy with their performance - over 2500 miles without a hitch. Well I was recently able to upgrade to a new bike (Specialized Roubaix). It seems there are typically two things that most bike manufacturers don't invest in when it comes to fitting new bikes - tubes/tires and seats. I was lucky with the seat, it's quite comfortable, but the tires are…
