Description of ๐Ÿ“ถ Cudy AC 1300Mbps USB 3.0 Dual Band WiFi Adapter for PC: Lightning-Fast 5Ghz + 2.4Ghz Wireless Dongle, Windows / Mac / Linux Compatible

AC1300 WiFi SPEED - Up to 400Mbps on 2.4GHz and 867Mbps on 5GHz. Provides long range and lag free connection throughout the house, upgrades your PCs /laptops to 802.11ac, 3 times faster than wireless N speeds. USB 3.0 PORT - Unlike other AC1200 USB 2.0 Wireless adapters, this product offers a blazing fast USB 3.0 port. The maximum speed of USB 2.0 port is only 480Mbps, absolutely cannot meet the high speed of 867Mbps on 5GHz, so if you buy a AC1200 wifi adapter with a usb 2.0 port, it is impossible to reach the peak speed of 5GHz 867Mbps even in theory. But USB 3.0 is different, its transmission speed is 10 times of USB 2.0 Port , which can fully meet the AC1300 Wi-Fi speed transmit requirement. HIGH GAIN ANTENNA. 5dBi High gain antenna boosts sensitivity of the WiFi adapter, create connections over greater distances, providing powerful penetration through walls. GOOD COMPATIBLITY. Compatible with Windows 10/8.1/8/7, Linux and Mac OS. Works with any router. We offer a CD which contains the driver in the package, you can follow the paper instructions to install the driver. In the same time, if a CD ROM is not convenient for you, we also offer a download address which printed on the manual, you can get the driver from the link. SOFT-AP. With Soft-AP mode, this Wireless USB adapter can turn a wired internet connection to a PC or Laptop into a Wi-Fi hotspot, offer WiFi signal to your mobile devices. Note: Not support macOS Big Sur.

NOT Plug N Play with Linux

Drivers included for Linux do NOT work. My Manjaro kernel version is 5.10.26. Don't waste your time if you're looking for a plug and play experience, it's not. Some more information: The included install.sh script contains errors. It cannot find the files required for installation. So you are essentially forced to manually compile the driver. I ended up just compiling the driver for the older adapter that I had on hand since it was easier than messing around with the scripts written on theโ€ฆ

Works as advertised, plug and play

It's a bit chunky but works as advertised. I bought it to upgrade the Wi-Fi in an old custom laptop that was wireless only and maxed out at around 30Mbps next to a wireless AC router. This approaches 300 Mbps in the same location and still approaches 200 Mbps throughout the home. Windows works with it (as it usually does with everything), but you get this with any network adapter. This one works way better than the first one I tried (which was almost double the price). It would be nice if itโ€ฆ

runs on Debian, not plug and play

I bought it on purpose because it was sold as Linux compatible. You weren't wrong, it worked great for me. Installation wasn't difficult. The driver on the CD didn't work so I went to the Cudy website and downloaded the latest driver. I followed the instructions and everything went well. Remember that the instructions require you to open a terminal at the file location. Make, make-install and 2 mod-probe commands. That's all. I got 200Mbps+ with it. The antenna is mounted with a SMA socket (the

This wi-fi dongle provides a stable internet connection for my laptop

. The wi-fi endpoint is almost in the west part of my house. The laptop's built-in adapter got a reasonably clear signal most of the time, but it wasn't reliable. I got this device and hooked it up to my laptop and now I have a consistently good connection. Apart from a more stable internet connection, this dongle supports 802.11ac protocol, so my internet connection is not only stable but also much faster. My downloads now average around 200Mbps instead of around 25Mbps with the built inโ€ฆ

Do not install Windows Cudy driver if you have Windows 10!

I bought this for my old laptop because the speed of the built in card is only 50Mbps (download). After connecting this USB drive, my Windows 10 built-in driver automatically detects it and after testing with speedtest.net it gets 177 Mbit/s (download). I tried switching with the cudy driver by downloading it from their website because their CD driver cannot be read and makes a loud noise on my CD. After installation, the speed surprisingly dropped to 80 Mbit/s (download). I then decided toโ€ฆ

Linux "support " isn't real

I'm sure somewhere in a lab, under ideal, tightly controlled conditions, with a very, very specific Linux distribution tied to very specific versions that goes to their " support" it worked on linux. The problem is that claiming that "runs on Linux" requires a lot more. I'm a former Linux kernel engineer. If I gave up trying to get all workarounds to work with the current version of Ubuntu (21.04), I wouldn't advise anyone to even try this. It was a waste of time. It's not that I can't get itโ€ฆ

Cudy has an excellent website that hosts software drivers that are readily available for each of their wireless peripherals based on model number. This is a plus as many overseas manufacturers lack consumer support. I have purchased several of these Cudy WU1400 units and two of them have failed within 6-12 months. Before that I had my own brand, which also failed (because of the noticeably high heat dissipation on the USB chipset), which is why I decided on Cudy. The Cudy models didn't get that
