Poached eggs without swirls

They are amazing and I wish I had found them sooner. If you follow the directions, lightly oil the poached pan, place in water to the correct level, bring the water to a boil - voila, you have a perfect poached egg that slides easily out of the poached pan onto a spoon and on your muffin. It is also very easy to clean, nothing sticks. Make sure the pot you are using is deep enough to place the poacher on the bottom of the pot, with the handle over the rim of the pot, allowing you to add theโ€ฆ

Great concept. need improvement.

I liked the idea of these little egg cookers, they fit in the pot really easily but unfortunately they are difficult to clean. I used vinegar as suggested in the instructions which glued the egg white to the stainless steel surface like epoxy. After washing such a tiny thing for too long, I tried again without vinegar. Absolutely the same result. :( Also the little finger grip has metal rotating around a little plastic knob which is an amazing heat conductor. I'm sure after a few more triesโ€ฆ

Can give good results

It took about five tries to get good results because product recommendations didn't give good results. What I ended up having is that when the cup is on the bottom of the pot, the depth of the water in the pot isn't deep enough to actually flow into the cup. Water ingress into the cup has always resulted in a sticky texture of egg white. Here's how I do it: Brush the cups generously with olive oil. Crack eggs into cups. Submerge the cups in water that is about to boil. the bottom of the potโ€ฆ

Don't waste your money

Don't waste your money. I love poached eggs and am a classically trained chef who usually boils poached eggs in a saucepan with some vinegar, shaking the water and carefully placing the raw egg in the water. One after the other. I wanted something that would make life easier and hopefully easier to make poached eggs. This product is NOT the answer. Don't waste money. I cleaned them before using. Dry them out completely. Then I lightly brushed the entire inside of the cup with olive oil. Thinโ€ฆ

Poacher Egg didn't convince me

I've been making Benedict Eggs for years. I usually heat a shallow saucepan and add the vinegar, then add the eggs when the water is boiling. Then I scoop the eggs up with a wide, flat stainless steel spoon. I place the egg on paper towels to soak up any remaining water and then place it on top of my English muffin. I followed the instructions and wasn't impressed with the result. The reason I bought this was to keep the egg inside so I don't have chunks of egg white floating around in the pan.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • No instructions

If you haven't mastered the drip-swirl poaching technique and are looking for a gentle tool, two key elements: โ€ข Water needs to flow from the TOP as well (that's what steam cooking pots and floating silicone molds mean) for even cooking cooked bottom and raw egg on top) โ€ข Non-stick surface for clean layering on your English muffin Yes, you must butter/butter them if you want a clean rise. what you deal with ALL the poachers on the market, even the Teflon coated Calphalon steamer.
