CURT 45791 8 " Hitch Extension

As I work in the steel industry I take a good look at the steel products I can get my hands on. The size, fit and finish are superb for this welded hitch extender. I will definitely be Rate Curt products when I buy similar products in the future, isn't it great when you get exactly what you ordered and it works the way it's supposed to?

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • threadbare

Perfect upgrade for Jeep with 35 " tires

I recently upgraded my Jeep to 35" tires. The new spare tire caused a problem with the hitch and my Yakima backswing. The reverse release lever was now located directly under the spare wheel. Reverse gear not controllable. Adding this extension allowed me to move Backswing and it is now fully functional. Another thing I want to add to this extension is the anti-rattle feature. The extension is only secured with a pin, so there is some play.

  • Hands-Free Operation

Used - very good. from stock Revain

Newly boxed and wrapped in bubble wrap. Packed in extra bubble wrap. Worked perfectly with no paint defects. My fear from the advertised description that the item would have "paint defects" was wrong. My truck has a spare tire attached to the rear bumper and had to be extended to get the trailer hitch out of the spare tire. I need a trailer that is remote from the bumper/spare tire to help with tight corners and reversing with the knife. Curt's 8 inch extension was long enough to do the trickโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • Can't remember

I don't know if what I received was defective but I had to send it back. Look at the product photo. The male part of the extension that fits your recipient is NOT typical. The length from the weld in the center of the panel to the hole is 2 3/4 inches. My receiver requires 3 1/2" and hence the holes did not line up. I then measured 4 other receiver mounted ball hitches and racks I have and they were all at least 3 1/2" long from the center of the hole .at a weld or other obstruction.I haveโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Some little things

Almost perfect for hauling groceries and winches

Mom's wheelchair carrier didn't fit my new Honda Pilot well. He was too close to the car to open the back door. I looked at other extensions but this one can also be used for towing. This item is strong and durable. It is suitable for docking the receiver to a spare seat. I haven't towed my trailer with it yet (still in the break-in period) but I don't think there will be any problems. All the holes lined up well and there were no welds so no grinding or sanding was required. I didn't noticeโ€ฆ

High quality, durable coupling extension

This is a high quality device. I'm surprised how hard it is. Insert side is solid steel, not hollow. Welds are clean and thick. I use this extension with a CURT 13432 Class 3 hitch (2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited) so the holes line up perfectly. This works great for extending my hitch past the rear mounted spare tire. This is important as I mainly use a bike rack hitch and the bike rack won't reach my hitch without removing the spare tire. I also use an extension to mount my flat storage rackโ€ฆ

Pros
  • External accessories
Cons
  • Very expensive

Serious Problem Solved with 2003 Toyota 4Runner

This product was just what I needed to solve a big problem. I have a 2003 Toyota 4Runner with a very short (about 2 1/2" deep) 2" receiver. I bought a CURT 18153 cargo carrier as a basket and was very disappointed to find that the connection between them did not allow for a 5/8" pin as the end of the cargo basket connection was also about 1/2". long and hit my car's under-mounted spare wheel. After considering my options: cut 1/2 inch off the cargo basket link, remove the spare tire, or enlarge

Pros
  • Towbars and Winches
Cons
