Excellent product for easy installation on Subaru

Reliable product, installation was easy for the relevant Subaru models. Found the jumper harness on the right side under the fairing after removing the large foam block from that side of the spare tire. Connect the plug and find a place for the Curt Harness. With the help of two pieces of duct tape I found a good hidden spot in the right quarter of the car's dashboard. Pull out the length and that's it. Done and ready 15-20 minutes of work.

If you have a Subi from around the same year you probably have the connector

The vehicle is not on the valid model list but lo and behold I have a connector behind the passenger brake light in the trunk. I expect many other models will fit this, just slide back part of the interior carpeting and see if you can find the white plug (it should be blank, ready for a curt plug). It was a lot easier than using Kurt's suggested wiring, which required me to drill and route battery leads.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Some problems

Item not as listed - received UHaul brand harness

Item purchased from UHaul does not match the picture. The item I received is in UHaul packaging and the trailer itself doesn't say "Kurt" anywhere. There is a reference to Curt on the packaging and the part numbers are similar but this relates to the fact that they sent a private label version which does not match the description in the listing at all. The item seems to be well made (I haven't connected it yet to test the functionality) but the point is that it is not an original Curt brandโ€ฆ

Good product, bad instructions.

Works beautifully but the instructions will have you breaking down your 2000-2004 Outback and tearing up the interior looking for a braid. The braid is on the passenger side, not the driver's side. I even called support and got the wrong information again. And the person on the phone was trying to tell me that he had just done the same thing in his mother-in-law's outback, so "just keep digging, it's out there somewhere." Watch a video online and you'll see that everyone else will find this onโ€ฆ

  • There are cons

I fitted this to a Subaru Outback and it was very easy. I have bought several Curt products and they have always worked well. I've had it for about 6 months and no problems. It powers the headlights of the trailer I sometimes carry with the Outback. Installation took about 20 minutes or less and the instructions were pretty straightforward. They also have some videos on their website to help with the installation. Great product and I will buy it again. If my review was helpful to you, pleaseโ€ฆ

Plug and play with no problems

Connects to the factory 6-pin connector on the rear inner recess of the viewfinder. Some Subaru have it on the right side, but on my 2006 Outback XT it was on the left side under the fairing. Trim faces east when following some YouTube videos. Just plug it in and it works. You can leave it loose and just slide it under the tailgate, the rubber seal will soften it enough. I decided to remove the spare tire and there is a rubber plug on the left rear side. I took it off, cut the slot about 1/2โ€ฆ

Subaru Outback 2005 - worth the money! - Super easy install

Installed on a 2005 Subaru Outback Limited Wagon. This is probably the 5th or 6th trailer harness I've installed in the last 5 years and it was the easiest. It's really plug and play. Remove the rear carpet, open and remove the spare tire, and then remove the carpet from the left side of the trunk. The connector is located in the rear left corner of the vehicle, hidden behind the panel that houses the rear auxiliary power socket. You will likely see it or a wire hanging down. Pull on it andโ€ฆ
