Description of ๐Ÿ“ป Dakota Alert M538-BS MURS Base Station - Multi Use Radio Service Transceiver with Adjustable Antenna and NO Relay Output

Wirelessly transmits and receives messages - The Dakota Alert M538-BS Base Station functions as a transceiver that can send and accept messages from other MURS radio units like the M538-HT radio. Offers private conversations - This radio unit features five channels with 38 privacy codes, which enables you to answer conversations that came from radio transceivers transmitting your code only. Operates for up to 2 miles - Even if you're up to 2 miles or farther (open line of sight, no walls/posts blocking) from another MURS radio, the M538-BS Base Station can still pick up the signal. Provides multi-use - Easily communicate with your staff wirelessly inside a warehouse, hotel or even outside a resort. Doesn't require FCC license - The device complies with the Federal Communications Commissions' rules and operates in 151.820MHz to 154.600MHz frequencies. No need to get an FCC license.

Ability to communicate with other base stations / bi-directional.

All Dakota Alert products are well made. Can work from both DC power and network adapter. Has a loud clean volume. The farthest signal I picked up was 4 miles away, among trees and rolling countryside. Works well as an intercom for buildings.

Pros
  • great product
Cons
  • good but not great

Best in class, good for radios

Dakota MURS is the only way to work on large job sites where you need to keep track of who is nearby. I have a barn driveway 700 feet from my bed and this base station alerts us day and night if someone is on the barn driveway or in our driveway. My wife loves knowing when a UPS courier is arriving or someone is walking in. Loud enough to be heard throughout the house. The frequency is chosen so that you cannot hear other neighbors with the same system. A buddy bought him over ten years ago and

Works great.: CB and talkback radios

Great product. This is the third one I've added to my system. Two in the house and one in the shop. I have a store receiver connected to a flashing LED strip that alerts me when I don't hear any signals. There is one in the kitchen and one in the bedroom. In the bedroom I hooked up a small LED light that will illuminate my entrance to the property when motion is detected. My store is far from the sensor, there are several steel cases between the sensor and the receiver. I made a wire and movedโ€ฆ

Works great around the home

Bought this for an elderly relative who already has poor eyesight and is bad with electronics. Home tuned to this channel. I have 4 base stations because they are easier to connect than batteries. I had some initial problems using the sidebars. another channel. They work, they're loud enough to be heard, and they're very easy to use. We had to put red stickers on the PTT buttons so she would remember which button to press. But they are way better than most home intercoms and about the sameโ€ฆ

Base station Dakota 538.

I have 3 of these base stations and a portable unit. You have far exceeded my expectations. At my other house, my phone system was my intercom, but due to wiring issues in this new house, my phone system couldn't be hooked up without ruining my drywall. I miss my phone intercom but that's the closest I'll get. Now that said, it's really nice to have a handheld unit because when I'm in my garage or shed that's about 75 feet from my house, I can still talk to my wife without going into the houseโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Nothing here

Great product

My wife uses this product to communicate with her mother who has diabetes. Her mother's house is about 100 meters from our house and the connection is uninterrupted and crystal clear. Just remember that both devices must be on the same channel and mode, and if used in an old house it is recommended to use a surge protector. I had to return one of the units but the customer service was really good and the replacement was shipped within a reasonable time. I definitely recommend this product. Weโ€ฆ

My Experience With This Unit Downtown

I have read reviews of this product and was first brought to my attention by a book called The Patriots by Survival blog editor JW Rawls. I ordered a base station and two walkie talkies. When these devices arrived I ran some handheld device tests and in the middle of a big city, on foot and in my car, the test showed good, clear reception at around 3000 feet. I've read that adding an external antenna to the base station increases the range of the base station. I then ordered an external VHFโ€ฆ

  • Trivia

An excellent alternative to a traditional intercom.

and workshop which is about 50 feet away (we don't always have cell phones). I've looked at more traditional intercoms that use AC power lines for transmission, but they seem to get equally bad reviews. The button you hold down during a call is the only control you need to use most of the time - MODE and arrow buttons to change channel, sub-channel and other settings - CALL button which beeps other devices for attention excite (the use of this button is optional) - MON button, which allows youโ€ฆ

  • Works up to 3 km. Even if you are up to 3km or more away from another MURS radio (line of sight, no blocking walls/poles), the M538-BS base station can still receive the signal.
