Quality item at a reasonable price. The starter comes with a solenoid.

Purchased for a 1998 John Deere LX188 17hp. Kawasaki. Looks like a quality item. Installed and pressed the button to start. Cranked about 5 times faster than the old starter that just stopped working. John Deere charged $303 for the starter and $81 for the solenoid. If it lasts a few years, that's a deal.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Nothing here

Worked great on my John Deere 345 Lawn Tractor

This starter and solenoid combo worked great on my John Deere 345. I made the mistake of removing the solenoid to get access to one of the engine bolts. Then when I put the solenoid back in place I misconnected the top of the solenoid to the plastic connector in the starter which caused a big problem. After learning that I had to hook the tip of the solenoid into the center of the fork, everything worked fine.

Pros
  • Happy so far
Cons
  • Dear

Need to test better components

My old starter was bad. I bought it because the local repair shop wanted around 230 for a new one. When I threw it into my John Deere Lx178 I was surprised when I didn't even hear the solenoid activate. It turned out that the solenoid on the new starter was faulty and I had to put the old solenoid on the new starter to fix the problem. Expects the product to be fully functional as advertised. I'm just glad I was able to get the mower working.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • piggy bank Price

Seamless replacement for John Deere 345 garden tractor

This was a seamless replacement for a John Deere 345 garden tractor. The rattling continued even after the ignition was turned off. On the second start, the engine started immediately. The exchange was relatively easy. Phillips screwdriver and socket wrench set. (1) Disconnect the engine battery (2) Open the engine cover and remove the black bottom plate of the engine cover (one Phillips screw) (3) Remove the positive terminal and electrical quick connector that lead to the power management…

Pros
  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • Not everything fits
