This review will save you money, headaches and frustration

This is a really good product, but it's only on PAPER. The following is the biggest issue I have with this product that makes it literally unusable. First a short introduction about me, I am a network engineer and my job is to manage and configure network products on a daily basis. Besides that, this SAN is not stable when online. That means you can connect to the dashboard from your network and remotely for the first few days, but after that it disappears from all connection points, meaning…

Pros
  • Central storage accessible anytime, anywhere
Cons
  • Almost never

Great NAS at an affordable price.

If you're confused by the amount of good and bad reviews on this (or any other) NAS, I think it mostly comes down to what each person wants, what to do about it and what kind of installation they have. If you are working in one of the Raid modes and want to stream to most players/smart TVs, this set top box is a very easy setup for you. If you want to work in JBOD like me and have a media player with custom software, some customization might be needed. I've had it for 3 weeks and after playing…

  • RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 or JBOD and coverage

  • So far so good

Great drive with periods of frustration

These are good electronics that are easy to set up and use. Many RAID modes are available, including JBOD (just a bunch of hard drives) for maximum storage space. Once installed, everything worked and it was easy to access from almost anywhere. Then the problems started. The drive periodically disappears from my network. Many people have mentioned this issue and many fixes are listed. At first I disabled hibernation because I thought that somehow made the problem worse. I also gave the drive a…

Overall a great NAS device

When you need lots of storage space, you really need a network storage device, commonly referred to as a NAS. I've been using the Western Digital EX4100 for a long time now and I'm generally satisfied with the device. I say right away that this would have been an easy 5 star rating had it not been for a system fan issue that required a refund. Setting up the device was quick and easy. I usually buy the NAS hardware and hard drives separately, but the Western Digital Red drives are exactly what…

Just what I needed

I've been using the PR2100 for about a year and have a lot of experience with it so when I saw this model at an unbeatable price I had to try it. I'm glad I did. Since the word "forward" he has been reliable. While there are a number of different useful apps you can install (straight from the toolbar), all I needed was online file storage and for that purpose it works great. . It has users, shares, web access, FTP access, and a whole host of other management tools. It supports both Windows and…

Stylish little prosumer NAS (4-bay)

This review is for the WD EX4100 (4-bay) as Revain decided to combine the 2-bay and 4-bay reviews. A: After 6 months of use, I need to add the following information: 1. A disk error notification is displayed for disks that have no disks inserted. This can be mitigated somewhat by scheduling regular downtime.2. Write speed is (obviously) still limited by the hard drive and network connection used.3. WD's documentation is still not perfect and they still rely too much on group support boards. To…

Pros
  • Ideal for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Negative gift
