They used to have a metal plug at the bottom but all the new ones are made of thin plastic where they can't be unscrewed and replaced with a metal plug. Moreover, even with antifreeze and flushing the lines with air, they will freeze and crack in the winter. There is no easy way to remove water. I just had to order another one. The black plastic cap tore again over the winter. This is the one spot where antifreeze isn't going when preparing for winter. It worked perfectly on my Dometic 510 toilet. The improved brass shaft should hold up well. I lubricated the o-rings on the shaft with silicone grease so they slide without nicks and seal better. After assembling the sphere, I sprayed it and the entire drain pipe with silicone spray. I also put silicone spray on the ball seals to keep everything well lubricated.
