Kohler MV18S: Starter

Fast delivery and easy installation on master's self-propelled mower 917.258691 with two Kohler Magnum MV18S 18hp engines. Starts great!

worth your money.

Fit and function were great. Used in the Kohler M18 lawn mower. The old starter motor didn't crank the engine fast enough to start. This new starter has no problem turning the engine over. Fast forward almost a year and a half. It still works with no problems. I am very happy

Curved Pins - Starters and Parts

Both pins are curved. Didn't install it until I noticed both bolts were bent. It did not have nuts on the drive end of the thru bolts as shown in the listing image. I had no choice but to have them straightened as it took a week to get here with "first class" service. Currently working on my Cub Cadet Kolher M18.

Fits Kohler M18S on starters and alternators

Product appeared to fit well, was easy to install and worked perfectly. Not sure what they "remodeled" inside, but time will tell. It comes with a one year warranty, I hope the OEM rejection doesn't bite me in the future. The original starter was 33 years old. If it fails prematurely I will update my review. Kohler OEM can be purchased at another online auction site for $130. Time will tell if the $80 savings were worth it.

Use on Kohler M18

Suitable for replacing a 30 year old Gravely 16G with a Kohler M18S. It cranks the engine and gently engages the flywheel when power is applied. It's just a tad larger than the original, but I only had to press a little harder to slide it through the case and it wasn't a problem. I particularly like how the shaft and spring are covered, which will likely help keep them lubricated and free of obstructions. I'll update this review if the starter fails, but so far so good!

Pleasantly surprised

I find spare parts crap. This device is marked "Made in Taiwan". It's well made and very close in weight to the original Kohler Magnum block, which leads me to some decent magnets. You will need to use two nuts and washers to hold your old block to the engine. Thought about restoring the original device but because it's cheap. uh, I mean economically, that was the cheaper way. The magneto turned out to be cracked in the original 32 year old starter motor so it needs to be replaced anyway. Only…
