Great scanner that could use a lot of improvement

This is a great scanner to start with; I bought one and was so impressed with its ease of use and image quality that I bought a second one for another computer. It warms up almost instantly and scans quickly. The image is sharp and there are many file formats that you can save the image in. The software that comes with it is also one of the best I've ever used. It's easy to sort and store documents and images with the software, and purchase includes the full version of the editable textโ€ฆ

  • High marks for support and durability from testers

Don't waste your money on this scanner!

I bought this scanner in August 2019. It reports a three-year warranty. Here is August or 2020. When scanning double-sided documents with the ADF, the machine makes a loud clicking noise and often curls and jams the original. It doesn't happen all the time, but enough to be annoying. I contacted Epson support through their website and was told that what I was describing indicated an unrecoverable internal error and the unit likely needed to be replaced. I had to call their office and ask aโ€ฆ

Fast but limited consumable availability

Good things first: The scanner is fast when it's working properly and overall it's reliable and produces decent image quality. Now for the bad and ugly: Bad: The scanner will not work properly when connected to a USB 2.0 port when a USB 3.0 port is available. The driver keeps returning a scanner busy message. Epson Support was unable to identify the problem and offer a solution. I discovered this myself and have now decided to use USB 3.0, if available. Ugly: The document feeder's scanning slot

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Not as thick as other alternatives

This is STILL my ideal scanner.

Easy to use. Easily scan all options - emails, copies, PDFs, etc. In eight years, this scanner has never missed a beat. It's built to last and fulfills everything we need in our office. This is both a flatbed scanner and a sheetfed scanner. The cover can be easily removed for books, large documents or pictures. This is a high resolution and fast scan of bow legs. This scanner has survived two desktops and five laptops and is working like new. This is probably why the manufacturer discontinuedโ€ฆ

Wow! Excellent standalone scanner

This standalone scanner is perfect for my work. The included software is easy to install. I first used the online help to get started and found it excellent. I used some of the many features the first day I got it and it was great. Scanned photographs, black and white and colour. I used it to scan old emails into a PDF file. He worked great. The size is just right to sit next to my computer and access it easily without having to jump up and down to download. The feature I like the most is theโ€ฆ

Easy to use, scan quality

I had a hard time spending $200 on a machine that only scans, but I finally got around to it. This scanner is a replacement for an HP 5180 All-In-One that I only used for scanning. It printed great but cost too much ink to be the busy printer I need. I have an Epson Workforce 1100 with bulk ink system for cheap printing. To say this scanner is a huge improvement is an understatement! I review over 100 pages of homeschooling materials for my kids every week. It was tedious and time consuming onโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Unreliable

Good scanner with ADF for normal documents.

The capabilities of this scanner are impressive considering its small size. It measures just 18 x 12 x 5 inches (approx) and is fairly light (9 pounds), yet it can automatically scan a stack of 50 pages at 25 ppm (or 10 ppm duplex). for general document scanning, not for photos. If you want to scan photo prints or negatives there are much better options like the Epson V600 Photo which scans at 6400 x 9600 dpi as opposed to this scanner's 1200 x 1200 dpi. This scanner can produce decent qualityโ€ฆ

Pros
  • A new addition to my collection
Cons
  • This makes me angry

Big. if it really works.

This is a disappointing scanner. When it actually works, these are great, fast, and crisp scans (although I use it to scan documents that would otherwise be faxed, not photos, so the clarity is relative). However, it could definitely use a software update. I use it on a Mac and the software keeps crashing. If I don't have a scanner connected, it crashes. When the scanner is turned off. He falls. It also has a slight issue with the feeder not always picking up paper, especially if you're onlyโ€ฆ
