The controller has never worked reliably.

I've had the aquarium heater less than a month and had problems from the start. The red light indicating it's heating up didn't come on. I tapped it on the countertop and sometimes it would turn on. The water was never heated above 75 degrees Fahrenheit. I had a 200 watt Aqueon heater that worked better but didn't produce enough heat. Sometimes it worked with warm water and sometimes it didn't work and the water was cold and the fish were unhappy. I believe that the regulator was faulty, afterโ€ฆ

Must be level. Continue reading.

I would give this heater five stars if the heater was designed for vertical use. It has to be horizontal or it won't work properly. This is bad news for people with small septic tanks. It's in my aquarium. Since I didn't want to hide it behind my brickwork... in the event of a failure it would be impossible not to disturb my corals. It's to the right of my tank. Ugly. Next is that the watch face is really designed to be hung on the wall with a screw or nail. The final complaint is that the cord

Dismantled in less than a month!

I purchased two 200w heaters for my 40 gallon turtle tank. The turtle bit off a piece of plastic from one of them (it had never bitten off pieces of other heaters before). The second heater burst leaving grains of sand/crushed shells all over the tank. I had to drain and clean the tank to get rid of all the sand. I removed the heaters. However, they heated the water well. It's difficult to circulate water around a 40 gallon tank, but I placed them on one side of the tank so the turtle canโ€ฆ

Honest heating. by Fish & Aquatic Pets

Put this suction cup in my 150 gallon basement aquarium and it lasted all winter with no problem. I have two flaws that cost this thing a star. First, the thermostat and the numbers on the dial are loosely connected. If I set the slider to 80 degrees. I have about 68 in the tank before the thermostat kicks in and shuts it off. Okay, I can live with that and just add this thing, not having to constantly change something. The second is that the device is underground. For a device used in theโ€ฆ

Finally a happy fish.

My poor husband has used three other tank heaters. The first heater I tried was the one recommended by the manufacturer for use with this tank and it was just useless for heating the tank and the wall adapter got so hot it made me nervous. The next two couldn't handle the 63 degree space on their own, so I put them both in the tank at the same time. It was cramped and unsightly in there, and I don't think he enjoyed sharing his 4-gallon tank with all that wiring and stuff. As for this heaterโ€ฆ

A good heater, but expensive and short-lived.

I would like to rate this heater higher but for some reason I can't. I've bought several of these, mostly 100 watts. They have some really nice features. I like the controls outside of the tank (who doesn't) and while "shatterproof" glass heaters are fine, for a turtle or a big fish the heater really needs to be shatterproof. This heater is abused a lot. No matter how hard it's scratched or kicked, it won't break, break (thanks to the rubber tips) or lose tune. It gets very hot (yup) and forโ€ฆ
