I use this on my rats. I've only had it for a few weeks but they love it! It's easy to clean and install! I don't know how reliable it is for birds, but it's the perfect toy for rats and possibly ferrets. Update: It's been a year and a half since I got it and my rats still love it. You will never get bored. Great food toy. I highly recommend it for your pet rat.

I have another pickup toy similar to this one but much better. The first complaint concerns mounting parts that are designed for 1/4 inch bar spacing. The sticker says "Bird Feeding Toy S. Canary Cage Feeder". The second complaint is the bolt that secures the rotating part. The mother doesn't stop. So if the bird turns the clean edge counterclockwise, it will loosen the screw and the edge will fall off. I'm sending this back.

I bought this for my pet rats as an educational toy. They love to pull treats out of it. It works as advertised and all parts appear to be quite thick and well made. The only complaint I have is that they are difficult to clean. The only way to get inside is to remove the wheel from the frame and completely disassemble it. We have three house rats and it was fun watching them understand. It was a little awkward to attach a nut and bolt to the cage, but that may be because our Double Critter Nation cage is very deep. it took two people. One holds it to the side of the cage while the other tightens the nut on the other side. The rats seem to be really enjoying it and I feel like their brains/minds are well fed. I would buy this again. It's a little tricky to clean as you have to detach it and then reattach it.

This was an instant hit with my rats! They figured it out in no time and it helped them reduce their snacking intake. When installing the unit to the cage, it was easier to have the outside help me install the washers and wing nuts than to try to hold them in place. and repair it yourself. Although I could probably do it myself. DO NOT overtighten the wing nuts or the acrylic will break. Mine was made on one side. Birds will probably take some time to get used to toys, so be patient. My bird eats pellets, veggies daily, and when it's all done she fetches nuts and seeds in her exercise wheel.
