Gates TCK286 Timing Belt Component Review

Very good quality timing belt kit for the PRICE! I wanted to buy it from the dealer. I'm glad I couldn't get this kit for less than half the price the retailer was trying to charge me.

This is my first time fitting a timing belt, but I followed the instructions exactly and had no problems. Fits perfectly and works well. The belt has done about 70,000 miles with no problems.

fits and works great on my 2003 Odyssey. OEM KOYO pulleys. The original belt looks much better than I expected after 10 years. But replaced it anyway as it would be difficult to judge its remaining lifespan from looks alone. I took a separate AISIN water pump and I think it will be better both in price and quality.

Changing the timing belt on a Honda would have cost a lot more. The parts look exactly like the original parts I took off, everything fits perfectly and the machine continues to run great. Changing the belt is relatively difficult, but it was a fun learning curve and I saved a lot of money too! The crankshaft bolt is stuck and is very difficult to remove. So if you plan to do this, be prepared. The rest was relatively easy. I also replaced the water pump at the same time.

Koyo bearings which are identical to Honda parts and timing belts are excellent quality and appear to compete with Honda belt quality at a much lower price. Great parts for the price. I bought this parts kit instead of the full kit including hydraulic tensioner and water pump as I didn't know the source. I then bought an Aisin hydraulic tensioner and water pump separately when I heard that Aisin makes Honda parts. It cost a few bucks more, but I basically got Honda OEM quality parts at a…

Both pulleys were Koyo which are OEM but I didn't look at the parts until it was time to install. Since they were new, I assumed they would be in like-new condition. The belt was fine and the idler pulley was fine BUT the idler pulley was scarred so badly that I thought it would be better to use the old idler pulley. I bought a Gates TCK286 timing belt kit for a 2002 Honda Odyssey. The kit includes timing belt, idler pulley and idler pulley. Both idler pulleys turned out to be exactly the same as the factory ones I removed. In fact, Gates appears to be supplying the idler pulleys to Honda. Everything fit and fit perfectly. He pays particular attention to the parts he builds for his customers, so he knows that sometimes cheaper doesn't always mean better, and he also knows the quality of the manufacturer.
