Great timing belt kit for 2005 Subaru Outback 2.5i Single Overhead Cam. This one (TCK307) is not suitable for double overhead cams. However, Revain has this kit, just use the auto fit feature and you will find the right product. This is quite a big DIY job but it is doable, my wife and I spent 8 hours on this but saved a bunch of dollars. Of course we weren't in a hurry, we're not mechanics, but we do things ourselves. All parts are perfect and superior to OEM. Thanks Revin

Great kit with all exact matching parts

Gates timing belt kits are recognized as the best OEM parts for repairing a tricky Subaru 2.5 engine. Mine was for a 2000 Subaru Outback Limited 2.5L EJ 25 and the kit came exactly as described, was 1/2 the price of some other manufacturers replacements and the fit was perfect. Only waste your money on the best. It's not a job for someone who doesn't have sufficient auto repair skills. So if you're unsure (because the motor is in the way), just bring it in and have a reputable repair shop doโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Hands free operation
Cons
  • Shorter cable than other kits

Timing belt kit as advertised

This timing belt kit was as advertised. High quality components (belts and pulleys). The included installation instructions were complete, if a bit cryptic in places. The price represents a significant discount over purchasing the items individually from Subaru. Installation was smooth except that the Gates belt is so tight that installation is a difficult task even with the tensioner loose and the idler pulley removed (per the instructions). Of course, you want the new belt to be as snug asโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Spare parts
Cons
  • Nothing here

Great price, quality parts.

This is the third set of Gates timing belts I have fitted to my Subaru vehicles. The first two were more complete water pump kits (they have WP in the part number). The tensioner, gear and idler pulleys were made by Japanese manufacturers and were either very similar or indistinguishable from the original parts they replaced. The belt is manufactured by Gates in the United States and has orientation marks to help you correctly position the crankshaft and camshaft. My only concern was with theโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Automotive
Cons
  • Functional

Gates kits used to be great; Good quality OEM pulleys/tensioners + belts. not so much now. Two years ago the tck328 I bought came with basically identical OEM pulleys (the smallest pulley was a fake made in China) and an OEM identical tensioner. When I say identical OEM, I mean same manufacturer (KOYO, NSK, NTN) and manufacturer part number as the dealer. The tck307 kit I just bought comes with two pulleys identical to the OEMs (KOYO and NSK) but the sprocket idler was Chinese Gates brandedโ€ฆ
