Description of Versatile and Reliable: General Tools 1271M Arch Punch for Precise Hole Cutting

The General Tools and Instruments 1271M Arch Punch is the ideal punch tool for punching a 1 inch hole. The punch works on leather, rubber, canvas, plastic, sheet metal, gasket material, cardboard and softer metals. The internal punch features an inside taper for clearance. The punches are heat treated forged steel, ensuring long lasting performance. Because of this heat treatment, the cutting edge will stay sharper longer.

Good clean holes punched

Installing the roof rack on the car required modifications to the factory rubber gutters. Instead of trying a hole saw like in the video, which leaves a jagged hole, I used this tool and a piece of wood as a support to punch clean round holes. I am very satisfied with the result! Highly Recommended!

Pros
  • Good stuff
Cons
  • No performance

Strong but too blunt - Arch Punchs

I was impressed by how strong and well made it was, but it's WAY too blunt to cut through any type of fabric. I checked it for felt, nothing was cut. Luckily, I have an electric grinder that my husband uses to sharpen his mower blades, so I was able to sharpen them, which works a lot better. I think if you sharpen the edge a little it will be even better. To cut the fabric you will need a knife edge.

Pros
  • High marks for hold and durability from testers
Cons
  • Delicate

Shockingly cool!

We used cheap #2 gasket kits you can get at the hardware store for about $10. They were fine, but the crumbling little hole punch and block of wood that came with them didn't fit initially. Enter this. After seeing some examples on YouTube and reading some reviews here, I settled on a 3/8" hole punch. The difference between day and night! Instead of minutes of hammer blows, a few quick hits and the fabric was perforated cleanly. Conservative, this increases productivity by 20x, be sure to use…

NOT SHARP AT ALL: Hand tool

Maybe the tool I received somehow passed quality control in an unfinished state. Note the length of the bevel on the tool in the photo. She looks about 3/4 inch long. The cut on the punch I received was barely 1/8 inch, making the obtuse angle barely able to punch a hole. Registration certificate! I was unable to punch a hole in two layers of canvas. It was impossible to return it. This project should be realized by PDQ. I simply put the tool in an electric drill and sharpened it to the right…

Suitable for light use only.

I've used this a few times to punch holes in thin cardboard and it generally works well for that purpose. However, it is not suitable for more than light use. The metal at the point between the bow and the circular cutter is thinner than the Amazon picture and prone to cracking. One side of me broke completely, although if I applied any force to it at that moment, the other side would break as well. Either a thin spot in the metal or a bad weld. In any case, it is at a high stress point in the…

Good product on punching

This product has a good design but is not yet ready to use. I use my hole punch to make 1 inch holes for my DIY face mask. I make them for my family and friends. The punch just isn't sharp enough. Easy to sharpen. You can use a sander if you have one, or even a belt sander while lying on your side. One problem I've found in the reviews I've read is that people have to slam too often and I understand why it might break for some users. Use a short piece of 4" x 4" wood post. Lay it on edge and…

Pros
  • The best in its niche
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

I found it boring and almost returned it

I use this hole punch to create 1 inch character and monster tokens for D&D. to him. A punch usually cuts through material in 2 hammer blows. Clean edges, professional results. My friends wondered where I bought them and were surprised when I told them I made them at home. At first I used a cutting board under a particle board, but the cutting board had a rubber underside. This absorbed most of the impact and forced me to hit the punch more than 10 times in one cut. At first I thought it was…

  • Easy installation

There's a right way and a wrong way to use these

First of all I like: -Good price -Sufficiently strong metal -The paddlewheel on mine was perfect from the company -Good size Dislikes now: -Welding left a lot to be desired - It was poorly packaged so the courier dropped it over the fence and it landed on the blade and banged on it - The inside of the blade was not finished so the sharpness decreased Problems and solutions from previous ratings: 1. The reviews showing the tool broken or broken made me think seriously about the reliability of…
