Replaced the optical drive with this in a 2012 13" MacBook Pro and I had a spare SSD laying around. Worked without any problems. There are no drivers, just changed and everything worked. I used the ifixit manual to follow the installation instructions.

Shipped promptly and works great. The only problem is that the tabs don't match my old faceplate. I was able to attach it, but it's a little crooked. Still, it gave 5 stars because it works great as a carrying case and saved me money compared to what was custom made for my laptop.

Looks good, parts feel solid, but the aluminum body is a bit large. As a result, I couldn't compress it, resulting in everything being too tight on my Lenovo Ideapad. The hard drive didn't fit properly, so it was all a frustrating exercise. It might just fit a different model or laptop model, so I'm giving it two stars for charity. I can try to sell it on ebay or just throw it away like new junk.

The inexpensive laptop didn't have a connector to add an SSD drive, so I checked YouTube and found that a component of this item can be used as an adapter. I installed the component, but the hard drive kept disconnecting and the system rebooted. I did not use this part for its intended purpose and am not sure if using it as an adapter was a problem. I found that I had to physically remove the notch on this adapter to allow it to release the optical sensor mini circuit board on the Mac Mini optical drive bracket. I removed this notch from the front left corner of the car when viewed from the side and it looked like it would fit a PC/Laptop/Mac Mini. I used this to install a second Samsung Evo SSD on my 2012 MacBook Pro for video editing. I bought the 1TB version, followed some instructions on YouTube and it was very easy. I already have a 500GB Samsung SSD as my boot drive, now I have a second drive on the same computer. External use was annoying with plugging and unplugging. I ended up just using the circuit board because it didn't fit my new HP laptop. But I expected this to be the case and used velcro branded glue to hold the drive in place. I installed an SSD, not a mechanical drive. I couldn't find any holes that matched this device and the metal was sticking out over some of the circuitry. I would use the metal part if possible.
