I put both supports at the height of the band saw table. But one support on the floor, the other on a half inch rubber mat. Inside the outer square tube is an inner welded full length wedge. The downward adjustment by pulling the handle back is very precise; I'm guessing a few thousandths of an inch is possible, much less than 32 or 64. This reel stand does not extend to a 45.5" height, only a maximum of 44". This is indeed false advertising. , the stand cannot reach this height. Very disappointing as I was planning to use it in combination with a 45" high band saw table! I was also disappointed with the overall poor quality: to install the screws connecting all four legs I had to redrill the holes as the existing ones mismatched at all!
