High-quality leather leads to sharp edges.

As a child, I saw my father use a leather belt to sharpen his razor blade. Leather? As an adult, I used diamond powder to sharpen knives. They were sharp but not razor sharp and the edge was always rough. So I decided on a leather belt like my dad did. I bought a Hutsul leather sling with a mix. This is a high quality piece of thick and smooth buffalo leather with a green buffing compound. I have used 154cm steel folding knives and carbon steel kitchen knives as indicated on D2. It worked…

First whetstone belt

I've been watching Youtubing trying to sharpen my knives and after a lot of observation and a lot of effort I feel I've done a pretty good job but that's just so, until I used this sling I finally saw my efforts pay off. In fact, my knives are so sharp I almost cut off the tip of my middle finger on my left hand! Without a belt, you can't get your knives as sharp as you'd like, and for a beginner like me Hutsuls offer an easy-to-use and affordable choice. Easy to use and talk about customer…

Outstanding bang for your buck!

I have just started collecting knives and very quickly realized that for my collection to be enjoyable, every blade must be really sharp! After many hours of research (okay, watching YouTube videos and reading various blogs etc) it became clear that the final step in sharpening ANY knife should be to apply a thin coat of the paste to a thin leather belt. (It's also come in handy for daily sharpening!) The "Brown Hutzulen Leather Belt with Compound" meets many requirements: It's inexpensive but…

Everything I wanted

I received an email asking if I would rate this product which was nice so I'll give my opinion even though I'm a newbie. a laborer, but has recently become interested in using more hand tools in his work. One of the things I was focused on was getting my planes and chisels sharper, so I bought this mainly because I needed a reversible sling that I could put paste on one side of. I also just wanted a tougher piece of leather as I used leather that I took from an old camera bag that wasn't…

An excellent sling is very useful for sharpening a filleting knife

This is my first sling. I am also new to fish cutting. A good leather belt was needed for the razor-sharp blade to do its job properly. This HUTSULS Premium Composite Leather Band will give me the sharpness that many satisfied Revain customers report in their 5 star reviews. Another feature I was looking for was being able to easily get a compound leather cord and no paddle or wood block. . I already have many pieces of wood and have had fun cutting and shaping the piece that best suits my…

A good introduction to machining

I used to sharpen my knives with the WorkSharp belt system and it gave good results. I have never used a leather sharpening belt but wanted to try it and see if it offered an extra level of sharpening compared to WorkSharp. I mainly sharpen EDC folding knives (Kershaw, Benchmade, Civivi, CRKT and others) and don't really delve into kitchen details etc. Firstly, this simple Hutsul sling is easy to use even for a beginner. I polished the smooth side with the included green stick and got to work…
