Just terrible smell from inside bottle, washed out used bottled water and still tastes and smells terrible like an oil spill-did not swallow.I feel my health is jeprodized as the smell reminds me of spilled oil/petroleum smell. Not using and sending back.Bought on Wirecutter recommendation-so their evaluation need to be questioned.

Pros
  • Great product for my backpacking adventures. Compatible with my water filter.
Cons
  • Was one of my favorite water bottles, but it got a pin sized hole after about 2 months of use.

Terrific fit for katadyn, low weight for hiking

Out of the box I loved this! I was looking for a fit for my Katadyn filter.I have used a Solomon vest bottle, which was also a perfect fit, but that filed over time (those bottles are known for that), and I wanted to add more durability but not much more weight. Took it on a 10 mile hike over the weekend and noticed only some taste problems - BUT I hadn’t even rinsed it. Whoops. Overall, really like this and intend to take it every hike!I Also love the size: had enough water towards the end of…

Pros
  • Fairly compact, does not leak & does not flavor the water. In all a good water bottle.
Cons
  • Yes they fold, but mine smelled and whatever I put inside picked up a plastic taste. Ended up returning.

Compact, durable, but.still has a noticeable plastic taste

I like that it's compact and folds up when it's empty - way easier to carry around than my normal stainless steel water bottle. I've used it for a couple months and the plastic taste is still present. I've sent their customer service an email and they replied promptly and gave me some suggestions that I tried and I still taste plastic. Customer service offered to replace it and I might end up taking them up on that offer, but I'd like to see if the plastic taste will disappear. But.maybe that's

Pros
  • Worked great and lightweight
Cons
  • Plastic taste after multiple washes. Returned

Not Very Useful for my opinion

The bottle has a slight but persistent chemical smell to it and a definite turn-off. It is light and packable when empty. It also stands up on its own when at least halfway filled. The sip cap is water-tight, however, to drink from it requires a very strong squeeze making the whole thing almost unusable. I ended up unscrewing the lid to get a drink

Pros
  • The ergonomic design fits comfortably in your hand, making it easy to drink from
Cons
  • The collapsible design may make it difficult to drink from while on-the-go

Handy Shape and lid but not as durable

After using it as a water bottle for my hikes for around a month, the flux developed a small hole on the top part of the bottle. Quite a bummer as I really liked how easily it folded up after emptying the bottle and how it was slightly more narrow than a nalgene. Not sure if I would get this bottle again.I had the 1.5L bottle. There was no distinct plastic taste and I liked the design of the cap. even if it was open it would not have sprayed water unless you sucked on it.

Pros
  • The HydraPak Flux is an affordable and practical solution for frequent hikers and backpackers
Cons
  • The Malibu Blue color option may not be appealing or appropriate for all users

Perfect fit for Katadyn Water filter

I got it for my son’s back packing trip while he had to use Katadyn water filter. The original Katadyn collapsable bottle didn’t look so sturdy so after lots of research, I chose this bottle. He said it worked out great. Now my other son who constantly drops water bottle is using it and loves it because he doesn’t need to worry about breaking it. It seems a bit pricy but it is a good quality bottle. Hope it will last long.

Pros
  • WATER FILTER COMPATIBLE - Attaches to most 42mm threaded water filters such as the Katadyn BeFree. Use as your filter squeeze bag or drink directly through.
Cons
  • The plastic material may retain odor and flavor over time

Water smells like rubber

Bought this for a long trip overseas. The plus is it's light and folds up, so you can carry it anywhere and not use throwaway bottles. The minus is that even though I've been using it for a few weeks, the water still smells of rubber or whatever the material is.

Pros
  • The HydraPak Flux is dishwasher safe, making it easy to clean after your trip
Cons
  • The collapsible design may make it difficult to attach a carabiner for hands-free carrying

Makes water taste disgusting

Imparts an absolutely disgusting taste to the water that I put in it, and the taste sticks in my mouth even if I rinse it out with hot water. The only reason the marketing of this product as having "no weird taste" is accurate is because the taste isn't weird, it's absolutely disgusting.

Pros
  • The Malibu Blue color is bright and easy to spot inside your backpack
Cons
  • The mouthpiece may be too large or too small for some users

solutions to taste and holes

That plastic taste - rinse with lemon juiceHoles - use 9000 or E6000 glue and make a small "puddle" of glue over hole, while hole is horizontal - dry over night. This patch lasted 2 years of backpacking.

Pros
  • The HydraPak Flux Collapsible Water Bottle is perfect for hiking and backpacking, as it is easy to pack and lightweight
Cons
  • The slight creases in the bottle when collapsed may retain water or bacteria

Wow, super impressed!

I live out of a converted ambulance and having water on-the-go is essential for me every day. I've been trying to also reduce my plastic usage and move away from buying liters of water as much as possible. These seemed like the perfect solution but I was also really skeptical about how well they would work for me. Just opened the package this morning and I'm already impressed.I mix powdered electrolytes into my water, so the wide opening on these works perfectly for this without having to use a…

Pros
  • The BPA-free construction is safe for kids and adults alike
Cons
  • The twist-off cap may not be as secure as other drink spout options

Perfect for my Katadyn BeFree

I bought these to use with my Katadyn BeFree filter and they work out perfectly. My new go to for water on the trail. Thanks for attention.

Pros
  • The twist-off cap is leak-proof, ensuring that your water stays where it belongs
Cons
  • The bottle may not be suitable for long-term use due to the plastic material breaking down

Narrow use case in my review

This is well made, but I don't think I'd recommend it unless space was really an issue. The bottle works well but it doesn't have a "air return" function - meaning when you drink it, the overall shape of the bottle gets smaller, it doesn't fill back up with air. Not that I was really expecting it to, but it was startlingly unstable once you've drank more than about a quarter of it - meaning it can't "sit up" on a counter. To be fair, this is meant to be compact and storable for a…

Pros
  • The BPA-free construction ensures that your water remains clean and safe to drink
Cons
  • The collapsible design may make it difficult to put in a cup holder

Collapsible for my opinion

Loved that this packs down small for in backpacks. It doesn’t impart flavor into the water. Has been easy to clean That's my feedback.

Pros
  • Its one-liter capacity allows you to carry enough water for your entire trip without weighing you down
Cons
  • The bottle may not keep water as cold as other insulated options

Decent Bottle / Terrible Valve

This bottle was great for being able to collapse down when empty which is what i was looking for on hikes and backpacking. However it has that terrible pressure release valve type of opening. So there is no way to control the flow rate of water. There is virtually no situation where using a water container should be high pressure release of the water or nothing. Even simply trying to fill a small container with water for cooking or drinking proves to be a pain since you have to squeeze hard to…

Pros
  • The collapsible construction makes it easy to pack alongside other essentials
Cons
  • The plastic material may not be eco-friendly or sustainable

Makes the liquid inside taste like plastic

Bottle is made from the same material as backyard swimming pools. It makes any liquid you put in it taste strongly of plastic. I used and washed it several times hoping the tainting would lessen, but there was no noticeable difference from the first use to the tenth. Very disappointing.

Pros
  • Its lightweight design makes it perfect for travel, whether you're backpacking or hopping on a plane
Cons
  • The bottle may take up more space than traditional hard-plastic bottles when collapsed

Cannot use in my review

I bought this for our Italy trip which I am still on. I have washed this bottle many times and cannot get the chemical taste out of the item. Cannot use it. Return window is closed, or I would return it. Waste of money,

Pros
  • Sports & Outdoor Recreation Accessories
Cons
  • The bottle may not be as durable as traditional hard-plastic bottles

Its great if you don't mind the sweet taste of plastic

We were on a trip to Alaska and I saw this bottle in an outdoor store calling out to me. Of course I quickly looked it up on amazon and did an impulse buy thinking it would be perfect for our next trip. Unfortunately, I should have used it before our return period with amazon. I really wanted to like this, its durable, it folds up small. Drinking from it with the spout is hard to get used to since the bottle has no form, but doable. The issue is, when you put water in it. It morphs it to…

Pros
  • Sports Water Bottles
Cons
  • The bottle can be difficult to clean thoroughly due to its collapsible design

I like it but, in my review

I liked everything about the bottle for filtering water. But I can’t seem to get rid of the bad taste of the plastic. I tried rinsing it out washing it, dried it out, but could not get rid of the taste and the smell. To me that was a dealbreaker. If anybody has any suggestions on how to get rid of the smell and taste please let me know

Pros
  • Its compact size allows you to take it with you everywhere you go, ensuring that you stay hydrated
Cons
  • The thin plastic may cause the bottle to crinkle or make noise while drinking

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good for travel but…

I like this one but when you drink out of it, It doesn’t sit on a flat surface without falling over. You have to unscrew the cap to let air back in first. Not a Hugh deal breaker just not 5 stars.

Pros
  • 100% BPA & PVC FREE - No weird taste, and no unnecessary or harmful chemicals.
Cons
  • The collapsible design may make it difficult to accurately measure water levels

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Exactly what I was looking for. Collapsible, strong.

I use this as a mixing bottle for water additives on longer rides. I squirt cold water from my bladder, add electrolytes and shake. After drinking as much as I want, I open the cap and squeeze excess air out of it, put the cap on and stash in my backpack. Does not leak when closed properly. Great collapsible bottle.

Pros
  • PACKABLE - At only 97g, it packs down smaller than a deck of cards. Your new thru-hiking essential.
Cons
  • The small opening may make it challenging to add ice or drink thick liquids
