Well designed: door hardware and locks

This is the second Johnson Pocket Door System I have installed. Installation is easy and took several hours (after opening the wall and removing the studs). The rail and slide are very smooth, and there is no problem to wear the solid wood panel door. I bought a Johnson soft close and it works very well. Accessories Johnson definitely worth the money and excellent quality.

Pros
  • good item
Cons
  • definitely bad product

Works as advertised.

Works as advertised. There are a few things to note that kept me from giving 5 stars. Because the soft-close mechanism is so light, it adds noise when the door closes and opens. It can be weighted down or they can use rubber instead of nylon in the wheels supporting the soft close mechanism to solve this problem. You need at least a 28" door to use two to open/close smoothly as the mechanism is very long.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Big and bulky

Stands at both ends - open and closed.

I was a bit skeptical at first and expected them to be quite flimsy. I was wrong. I bought two of these for double doors (for soft closing). I was so pleased with their installation and performance that I got another pair for smooth opening of both doors. While the original shipping estimate was around two weeks, both kits arrived much quicker (only 3-4 days). I am so happy that I can now complete the entire setup.

Concerns about the shelf life of the product

Item arrived on time. The instructions were accurate, but the instructions said to hand tighten the activator screw, which didn't happen. I bought two of these and in both I had to use a vise to actually pull the screws out until I could loosen them enough before I could manually force them to turn by hand. Works as advertised but again I am concerned about the plastic latch which the activator releases to close the door. Let's see how long it lasts before it breaks.

Good until one falls off after installation

Take care when using this to ensure the door closes smoothly when opened. I have ordered 2 of these. I expertly installed them on my new front door to my bathroom during a renovation. Well, they were fine until whoever opened the door fell. Then, as you understand, it was tucked into the wall so that the door would not open fully. I had to go back to a professional, cut and remove my wall. I decided against a fresh install. I would recommend just using this to close the door. So if you run into

It's good if you know how to install them and you need 2 per door!

First you need 2 soft open and soft close kits per door panel. Each set can open OR close, but not both at the same time. You can't add them to an upgrade without removing the entire rail on a door panel. In the case of double tracks, there must be a gap between the guides so that they can be pushed in. You still need to open the wall on the door to lock and adjust the soft close. Wall. If you are only making one door you will need to install the soft close kits before the track goes up. Once…

Works great, but beware

This product works great. I bought one to see how it worked and then bought another for our second sliding door. I installed a motion sensor in our laundry room, which I really like, but it's right in front of the entrance. When you walk by or a dog passes, the light comes on when the door is even slightly open. I couldn't get my wife and kids to keep the door fully closed as you have to be careful not to bounce it when you close it. This fixed it. It doesn't take long to learn how to use the…

Prevents my kids from banging the door open or shut.

I bought 2 of these soft open and soft close doors for my bathroom door which I have turned into a pocket door. They more than doubled the cost of the hardware, but once the door was installed, they justified the cost. They work with a spring and a slowly closing piston. Be sure to follow the instructions or you will break the closer. There is a piece of plastic (probably nylon) that attaches to a stop attached to the frame. The amount of plastic parts makes me concerned about their durability.

Pros
  • SOFT CLOSE - This soft close kit contains only a soft close actuator. To work with a one-way soft door, use 1060 in combination with door hanger 1125.

Expensive but no choice

Failed to load media. I installed a Johnson sliding door 12 years ago. The hardware has survived and remained relatively unchanged, allowing this soft-close feature to be added years after the original installation. If the delivery wasn't so slow I would have added one more for soft opening but I had to close the wall. I was happy to save the cost of a second one. I have another door with soft opening and closing, which is a really useful feature. I like pocket doors and use them because I have
