Looks cheap, works great, very useful

Bought for my workstation which I use for home IT tasks - disk cloning, backup etc. With two drive bays and two USB 3 slots in one . The 5.25 inch form factor is great. The doors seem flimsy, but I haven't had any problems. I don't use locks. It's best if they're in your case where there's good airflow - otherwise the drives will get very hot with prolonged use. I like that all three functions only require one power connector as I ran out of SATA power connectors from my PSU. The case didn't…

Not suitable (IMHO) to run desktop OS

Update: I just tried using the 4TB hard drive I used to test this adapter/backplane and found, ALL SATA DATA CONTACTS to your hard drive HAVE BEEN LOST! Not only that, the plastic backing is completely gone, and the plastic backing of the power connectors is also damaged (i.e. the 4TB drive is now unusable!) Worst money I've ever spent (at least equal to similar extremely bad cases) . . . . :-(I need a replacement front access drive to replace operating systems (OS) on a desktop PC. I think…

Great cage for easy access to drives

I have this case to make it easier to access my drives that I have in a ZFS pool as a media server for Kodi. Yes, you will need to modify the computer case to bend the tabs to fit. Understand that you are putting this in place of 3 DVD-ROM like devices. It was pretty easy to do. There are 2 SATA power connectors on the back. Not sure if this is for redundancy or for power requirements. I've decided to connect a connector to two separate power supply legs to help in both cases. It would be nice…

Fits tight but works in Dell PowerEdge T110 II

I am using this in two Dell T110 5.25" drive bays so my experience will definitely not be the same installing in something else. It's very snug, but with a bit of lube on the elbow and twisting, it really slides in. The problem is that there are two metal "bulges" at the top that make contact with the body. Drilling it down really crossed my mind, but the idea of thousands of metal shavings climbing all over the case made this a bad idea. Note that the two bulges can scratch the top of the…

Matching hard drive accessories on arrival

Kingwin Hot Swap Mobile Rack (2.5" and 3.5" B hard drives) came at discount because the power switch never turned on the voltage on the interface or the interface was bad, The power light never came on and Windows never saw the raw drives I inserted. I also connected the device to another power source that I use for such purposes and the device still didn't work and will be replaced. This raw, hot-swappable device was just what I needed to compliment my latest build. The frame is made of…

Poor choice of ventilation and SATA data cable

Overall, judging by the specs, this seems like an impressive choice despite the device being primarily plastic. Not as much. The 70mm x 15mm fan is a super cheap sleeve bearing assembly, but wait, it uses a fully custom proprietary connector and is either very noisy or can be slowed down and doesn't cool well. The fan has a very cheap sleeve bearing, so that all means if, not if, and most likely sooner (<1 year) than later, the fan fails, you just can't buy another 70mm x 15mm fan and"…
