This saved me a fortune

I recently bought a new bike with an Ultegra drivetrain but it came with Tektro R540 brakes (many companies do this to keep the overall price of the bike down) . The bike was a good upgrade from my previous bike in every way except the brakes. The stopping power was much less than what I was also using. I was looking to upgrade to a set of Ultegra brakes ($160 minimum) but decided to try changing the pads first. The increase in stopping power (wet or dry) over the stock pads was fantastic and…

The best pillow for life on the rim and all conditions

There seem to be a lot of good reviews for salmon wet pillows. When dry these are the best pads I have ever used. The braking surface of my aluminum rim is so worn that I couldn't even lock the rear wheel if I tried to use different brands of black compound! Wheels brake almost like new. I wasn't overly impressed with the stopping power of the black Kool Stops, but the salmon pads modulate well and don't bite the rim at all. They seem to take about 10 rides to break in, they felt really greasy…

Great pads for carbon discs!

Have tried many other brands - Swiss Stop, Zipp etc and keep coming back to them. Braking performance with my carbon discs is great - other brands didn't give the expected results compared to these. They also have excellent stopping power in emergency situations and in all weather conditions. They don't seem to make any noise, especially when they get hot, nor do they leave marks on the rim. Wear seems minimal after a few thousand miles, again I don't ride much in the hills, riding season in…

Many options but below average performance

I normally use Scott Mathauser pads but decided to try them to replace the black pads from the Tektro 650b conversion kit. I didn't want to buy new pads or look for old ones, inserts etc. Kool Stop is handy in that they have a lot of replacement pad options and still make a lot of inserts and they fit Tektro holders very well. Unfortunately, these salmon pads are still not comparable to the original Scott Mathauser salmon pads. Even though it's salmon, it still doesn't stop well when it's…

Stop for a dime in the rain, sleet or snow:

These brake pads were installed on a 2013 Cannondale CAAD8 that was fitted with standard Cannondale C4 calipers. They replaced the original pads, which always had mediocre stopping power at best. Having used Kool Stop Salmon Pads for 4 months now I can say they outperform standard pods day and night. They are very sticky and can easily lock up the rear wheel by clinging to clean rims. They give the brakes a very sticky and almost spongy feel that other reviewers have complained about. However…
