Kryptonite Kryptolok Folding Bike Lock Review

After reading all the reviews about the poor design of the mount I stopped using it and put this lock in my handlebar mounted bag, which is great for me. I've been using this lock for 6-9 months and it works great and I'm happy with the high level of security it offers. In the last few weeks I have noticed that it has become very difficult to open and close the lock with the key, it just won't turn. I've just purchased this great Kryptonite Kryptolok bike lock which has had great reviews. However, it was an open box primarily sold by AMAZON.LLC. . Who would have thought Revane would screw it up. The keys that were in the box did not open the lock. They went with some other castle. If you're buying an open box, what you think might not be great. A lock without a key turns into big, heavy paper. Of course I sent it back, but what a hassle.

I like the lock but if you want to buy one because it takes up little space on the frame think again. You'll probably still need to carry it in your backpack. The plastic clasp has a smooth design. It is unable to withstand the weight of the lock itself and will simply break. Also, my rubber band broke after 1 month of light use. I'm filing a warranty claim with Kryptonite to get a new plastic mount and I plan on reinforcing it with zip ties. With a rubber band you also have to come up with…

As many have said, the lock is well constructed and my deciding factor in pulling the trigger was my bike's theft charge being stolen. The downside is the mounting hardware. I knew this happened but when I got the reviews they didn't lie! I will not mount it on the bike frame, it will be kept in my trunk. Don't expect a decent mounting set for the money. Not so. If you like the lock, take it, but don't be surprised at the cheap attachment. Come on, kryptonite, you can do better than that.

The lock itself is great: quality workmanship, chain long enough to wrap around the bike frame, front wheel and any mount you want to attach the bike to a security cover, which slides into the front keyway and protects it from dirt and rain. The plastic around the links protects the bike frame. Sturdy but not too heavy. Mounting hardware is a joke though.
