I was very excited when I received my knife set for home use. Beautifully finished steel and the knife block is sleek and modern. Overall it was a great purchase but the knives weren't nearly as sharp as others have claimed. Luckily I know how to sharpen knives.

I bought these knives for my husband 3 months ago and at first he was very happy with his gift! They worked well initially, look sleek and don't take up much counter space. but when cutting vegetables, the blade began to break and came off cleanly. You are too skinny.

For what you pay these are amazing knives. But they quickly lose their sharpness. After slicing about 8 pounds of chicken, I had to re-sharpen the knife, but because the blades are soft, they sharpen easily. A few fire up the sharpener and they're like new, but rinse, rinse, rinse, repeat. A cheap sharpener will do!

While I don't believe these blades were forged and assembled in Japan, I am sure the steel is from Hitachi. After using them for a few months I can say that they hold the sharpness very well. The Pakka wood handles are not slippery and the balance is almost perfect. These knives appear to be on par with the much more expensive offerings from Wüsthof.
