Great tool for grilling food.

I love grilling and thought a spatula would do the trick. Then I remembered the grill in my old house growing up. The guys who cooked there always used a grill press very similar to this one. now i know why This means hamburgers, steaks, fish and hot dogs come out better and cook more evenly. No more meat that bulges in the middle or fish that cooks unevenly. I don't know how I managed without it.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!

Cannot flatten hamburgers enough due to curled edges

I love most of Lodge's products so I chose this hamburger press over others. I was expecting this hamburger press to have a flat bottom, but to my surprise there is a rim around the edge of the press that limits the plane of pressing the hamburger or meat patty. Because of that "lip," you can't even use it in a bacon pan or even to press sandwiches. I tried using this press to make "smashing hamburgers" but I couldn't get the patties as flat as I would like and ended up with the pattiesโ€ฆ

One-Piece Grill Press - Cookware

One of the holes used to attach the handle was not drilled at the factory so it didn't match the hardware. It was completely filled with slag. Luckily I work in a car dealership and I love breaking things. My carbide-tipped air drill quickly solved this problem. Bought this mainly to make hamburgers at home and to keep the bacon from curling. After putting it together it seems pretty solid. I used a 3/8" open-end wrench and a heavy-duty flathead screwdriver and a couple of small lock washersโ€ฆ

Almost perfect but a bit hasty with the fasteners

It's nice to have a round press that curves with the rim of the pot. The handle stays nice and cool. It's quite heavy so I don't recommend it for something delicate like fish or even fried cheese (unless you're using heavy bread). The only thing I really don't like is that the fasteners aren't stainless steel and don't tend to rust. I don't mind zips at the top, but unfortunately the zips go through the pane and protrude (but are recessed) at the bottom where they come into contact with yourโ€ฆ

Bought for a specific purpose and it works as I hoped it would.

This flat bottom press is advertised to prevent bacon from curling, among other things. As some reviewers have pointed out, the size of this press is too small to cover strips of bacon, so I'm not sure this is the best use for it. However, I bought it for a specific purpose: to press and toast Cuban sandwiches. While I have a good panini press that I use a lot, it has raised grilling sections so it doesn't press the entire sandwich down like it would when pressing a Cuban sandwich. All breadsโ€ฆ

Matched stainless steel hardware

Bought to cook bacon as I hate it when it curls up while cooking. I've found the hardware to be a bit slack in all of the reviews, so I was willing to buy replacement hardware from the store if needed (it would cost about a dollar), but it wasn't needed. The included hardware is stainless steel and works well. I think the problem people have is that they think the included nuts should move smoothly and they don't. Think of nuts as lock nuts, they have short threads and don't run smoothly (youโ€ฆ
