More nutrition and less waste than white safflower. Not a favorite of squirrels. Easy to eat and digest.

A favorite food for our favorite wild birds! We fed a high quality songbird mix which attracted many birds but unfortunately was also a favorite of starlings, bullocks and crows. These hooligan birds would eat us outside and at home, running away from all the more desirable birds. We have switched to these golden safflower seeds and also supply black oil sunflower seeds (in protein resistant feeds) and the switch has worked wonders. The hooligan birds disappeared almost immediately once we…

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Lots of stuff

Revane tells me I've bought this 14 times and have no plans to stop anytime soon. I originally bought this because squirrels and starlings supposedly don't like it. I definitely have fewer starlings now, but I still see them occasionally at the feeder. However, squirrels still eat it. Finally, I put a baffle on the feeder to keep the squirrels off it. However, they eat seeds from the ground. I switched to Golddistel within a month, mixing a little more with the old seed mix each time…

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Reliability

It only eats tits.

First, it smells awful, almost like a chemical smell. I was afraid there was pesticides in it. But I read the label, it was well packed, so I decided to try it in my feeders. I live in North Florida and am always looking for something new to try with my pet birds. I placed this in a tube feeder with the bottom half of the black sunflower oil and white safflower mixture and the top half of this new golden safflower. Birds will obviously jump from ports with this food to ports with a mix of…

Pros
  • Durable coating
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

Birds avoid them like we do the black plague

Don't waste your money. I can't talk about taste or nutrition, but I can tell you about the birds that visit my garden. I have many very different birds that visit my garden. I have a mixed feeder and a white safflower. I refill my white safflower every day. What birds don't eat, what's on the ground under the feeding station, squirrels eat; despite claiming that they don't like safflower. In any case, I decided to give this golden safflower a try as it claims to have "more nutrients and less…
