Works with Festool!

great alternative to Festool chip protection. I replaced mine with a transparent Festool product according to the manufacturer, only for the splinter guard to come off long before it wears out. I then tried using Makita as an alternative as it was cheaper. Since I switched brands I have never had scrubs again. If you don't mind black instead of transparent, this is definitely the way to go!

Goes well with Festool guides. Rubber

For use on Festool rails. They're rubber and have the Nitto image printed on them (assuming it's the same company that makes the Nitto tires). No width issues as others have mentioned. I set it up just like the Festool brand and had plenty of material for the blade to cut through. I made the transition because the Festool splinter guard on all 8 of my rails came off from the heat. I couldn't see if the Makita brand would last as winter isn't approaching. Hope it stays like others have said.

Pros
  • This is amazing

  • Reliability

The 118 " guard was shorter than the railing

I bought this and the 55" version from Makita 194418-6 55" Splinter Guard as a replacement to restore my rails to their original condition offset. The 55" guard was about 3/4" longer than the rail. I made the mistake of not checking this protective cover before removing the adhesive paper and beginning the installation. When the entire guardrail was in place I still had about 3 inches of rail without the guardrail. It doesn't cause any functional problems, it just seems bad to me. If I had…

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • disappears

I bought the 118" version because it was only a few dollars more expensive than the 55" version. So I got 2 of these for just a few bucks more. I removed the OEM strip from my Festool rail. It has moved a bit, I keep it in a truck which can get quite hot in the summer. I cleaned the area with acetone to remove the old spall guard. Then I attached a new strip and held it close to the edge of the recessed channel. I put the saw on the guide and it didn't look like the saw would cut the splinter…
