Cheap but functional

Cheap plastic case with a very weak, noisy fan. It is not intended for frequent hard drive swaps as the drives and cover are held in place by screws. There's one clumsy but important setup step, even if you don't change the RAID DIP switches: you have to press and hold the recessed confirmation on the back when you turn it on, and hold it until the drive lights start blinking. The drive works fine (so far).

  • Finally bought it

Most important: it doesn't turn off (and doesn't .

most important: it doesn't turn off (and doesn't wake up) when the computer goes to sleep. Problem I had with some external hard drive cases is that the drive mysteriously loses connection if the computer goes to sleep without unmounting it. This case wakes up with the computer if it ever goes to sleep. It works exactly as described and for me no problem with him or his speed.

Amazingly FAST! â Computer Accessories and Peripherals

Incredible Speed! I am very satisfied with the Dual Bay USB 3.1 GEN 2 device. The fan is incredibly loud, and the beefy plastic cover doesn't help. I installed a 3.9V zener along with a 51ohm resistor to reduce fan speed/noise. Let's see how the wheels hold up. First I had problems with WIN10 64bit (ASUS Prime z390-a) with 2TB which I used together with 500GB (both spinners) but ended up copying the 2TB file to a Linux machine. and then he recognized it (I don't know, don't ask). The transfer…

The device works well but the cable needs to be replaced

The first impression is not very good. The device constantly becomes "unreachable" during data transfer and is extremely unreliable. It stays connected for up to 90 seconds, but typically drops out within 20 seconds.** Update **After constant crashes and disconnects, I was ready to bring it back. I decided to order a replacement USB 3.1 Gen 2 cable from Revain and now the case works as expected. I haven't had a single breakup or rejection in the past few days. Average read/write speeds hover…

great design and functionality but a bit noisy

I've tested this quite extensively in Raid 0 and JBOD and it works very well. The speed is good, falling asleep and waking up as it should, no problems. The problem I have and why I returned it is that it is a bit noisy. I actually noticed it less when the lid was off than when it was on. My guess is that when it was off there was more room for noise to dissipate, and when it was off it was all being routed through a small port. So it works almost like a whistle. I'm not sure if it's really the

Nice case, very fast. But the fan noise is terrible

This is a great drive bay. Very fast, easy to use and looks great. But the fan noise is terrible. I mean it's too loud. I only use this for Time Machine backups with a green WD drive (which doesn't generate much heat) and an SSD for general external storage thanks to Apple's meager hard drive sizes. So I just disconnected the fan from the device. I've read that others talk a lot about the fan noise of this product. This is really very bad. To the point where it's even mentioned in the owner's…

A great affordable solution for a simple RAID configuration.

Update 03/04/2019 ProBox Duo 10G still works perfectly (almost a year later). However, it seems to have been dropped from this list, which is very disappointing as it's definitely worth the price and works very well. I continue to use Samsung 960 EVO 1TB SSDs in a RAID 1 configuration and this is one of the cheapest purchases to date for a basic external RAID. A big advantage on MacOS is the automatic backup of external drives via TimeMachine, so not only do you have redundancy via RAID-1…

The thing does its job. I didn't have any USB drop issues like other reviewers with other Mediasonic RAID devices, but it could have been done a lot better to not make it so noisy and hot. The fan pushes air out of the case/away. from hard drives, but terrible case airflow and small fan make it useless; My drives easily reach 50-55C if I'm doing nothing but sequential writes. You'll get slightly better temperatures (and less noise) with the cover removed, but what's the point with a fan pushing

Almost seamless installation

When my 16TB Western Digital drive enclosure failed, I wanted to keep the drives and just add a new enclosure. After some research, the Mediasonic ProRaid case turned out to be the most suitable in terms of performance and price. The initial installation started very easily. The PC recognized the new case and began installing it. The first problem I had was having to reformat the drives again even though they were already formatted and configured as RAID 1 in the WD settings. The drive was…
