🪄 MG Chemicals 425-NS #3 No Clean Super Wick Desoldering Braid, 0.075" x 5', Green Review

The first inch or so sticking out of the spool didn't work at all, but I've had the same problem with other brands. He removed the capacitors from the TV power board like a champ. It says there is flux in the braid but I always use a flux free paste with it to make it go faster. This is a good product, use the end of the wick, hold it between the board and the iron, don't go crazy with the pressure applied and let the product work. I've been using this brand for a year with no problems.

This is a very good solder wick and a good width for medium sized jobs. It contains rosin flux so you may not need to dip it in flux for really heavy work. The secret to the solder wick is to work from the tip of the wick and not unwind it too much (the "body" acts as a heat shield). Once about half an inch is filled with [damaging] solder, cut it off and start over. You'll get better with practice. Mmmmm, not too keen on this one. Whatever flux base they put on this braid, it's useless. I have to apply my own aldehyde flux so it absorbs effectively. Strangely, my roll was also 10-12% shorter! I thought it looked easy so I pulled out the whole spool and measured it, I was only around 36-37 feet! WTF? It wasn't even in the opened package! I had a problem with a Radio Shack wick I had left over years ago and was looking for a good wick. the wick is better when it's hot! The Radio Shack was too big and the braid was too loose. Of course you will need additional flux to use this or any other wick. I knew about it and ordered more at the same time (also from MG Chemicals). Thanks to MG Chemicals for a great wick!
