I do a lot of SMD assembly and finishing. This desoldering braid works well for this process and I use it all the time in the lab.

This product is really good for absorbing excess solder due to soldering errors in PCB assembly. Very narrow to get into tight spaces between components.

It's good for small SMD parts, the flux used in it is good quality. Just make sure it's suitable for what you need it for. Pay for the solder wick if you need a lot, find a way to buy in bulk.

I think the idea is that the solder flows up the braid but I haven't seen that before. Maybe I'm not using an iron hot enough? Isn't 375°C enough? Beats me. Obviously other people have come up with a technique to do this job, but it eludes me.

I worked FOUR days to remove the solder jumper on the MSOP-16 package. Pins 0.32mm wide with 0.5mm pitch. The bridge was deep in the pins, almost to the IC body. I have tried every method that has ever been posted. I finally bought this wick. I used a fine point on my flat iron and lots of flux and managed to force the worn end of this wick in and around the space of the bridge. BINGO. My board and chip were saved. By the way, I really like almost all MG Chemical products. 5 stars to it.

How does MG Chemicals Solder compare to generic competitors? Hm. Having bought countless rolls of this stuff from MG Chemicals over the years, I have to say that their product works the best in my experience. It seems to have a good shelf life (someone doesn't consume large amounts of this stuff), doesn't seem to oxidize much if left unused for a while, and is quite effective for its intended purpose.
